“Yeah I’m sure she’ll show up in the nick of time to remind any of our sorry asses already here how to correctly save the day.” He respected Tasha and perhaps in another life things would have been different between the two of them. Both of them knew the dangers of relationships in the worlds they lived in and Asa had vowed to himself that he couldn’t settle down. Everything was too complicated with him and he really hadn’t seen a wife or kids in his future. Still, he wouldn’t trade having Max and Alicia in his life for anything… though he wished that he could be a better father to them.
“We might need all hands on deck here but I wouldn’t recruit her. Neither would I have recruited you, but you’re an adult and – I want to respect your own decisions instead of be your old man that came around a few times a year between hunts when he could trying to tell you what to do.” He wasn’t aware if Max was fishing for an answer to that question or not, but he Asa was largely an open book, which could get him in trouble especially in this town where he wouldn’t be leaving in a few days. He wondered how long he would last at the Briar Patch before looking for a small place of his own. An apartment, more than likely. A bit cheaper in the long run which was desirable as he wasn’t much for credit card scams. “Family, yes, I’ve heard that we have some serious things crawling around here. Things that have knowledge in an instant about the people they meet or that always have eyes for that kind of thing. Using the safety of a loved one against a hunter, or any person, for that matter is a monster’s favorite play.”
“I’m happy you fit the bill. Maybe I’ll have to invest in some colored contacts.”
They are a complicated family, he knows that, and his father knows that, but Max also knows that his parents have done all they could to try to minimize it. Hunters don’t usually get mixed with supernaturals, so having a hunter and a witch having kids together is not very common. So Max is proud of both his parents for actually trying because he’s seen a lot of stories, simpler than theirs, end worse. Both him and his sister had been raised by their mother, but Asa was there too, when he could, and for a while Max had wondered if it was a temporary thing - if he would come once or twice and then be done with it - but he kept coming back and that was all he needed to know.
“I know you wouldn’t.” he says. he knows. he knows that Asa is a protector and he would be even if he wasn’t a father. It’s his nature. Max thinks he got some of his own protectiveness from him, but also the whole ‘i love you but I won’t say it with words’ thing they both do with those they care for - case in point: Max with Alicia. Then again, she is his other half and they do have the freaky-twin-connection to add to the mix. Other than that, Max is all Tasha, from the witchy talent to his carefree nature and playful personality.
“I’ve heard it too, but more than that, I’ve felt them. We’re in the middle of something that feels sort of apocalyptic and I’m not sure if all hands on deck will be enough,” he admits. realistically, he knows they will struggle and a lot of people will inevitably die. “That’s why I’m saying you need to be careful. Mom says thinking first was never your strong point.” he concludes, squinting his eyes at the man, faking disapproval.
"or bribe a witch. heard they’re real problem-solvers”
