Dante and Lady metaphorically become family (siblings) during the events of Devil May Cry 3. Lady only starts to trust Dante and accept his aid when Dante finally explains to Lady that their struggle is a shared one; their family problems are one and the same. This is a sweet and heartfelt moment of found family as Lady and Dante realise they aren’t so different after all, despite the theme of contrast so prevalent in Lady’s plot in the game. Dante also ceases with his banter and takes on a more comforting and reassuring role, promising to take care of her - as an older brother would.

I wish they would bring back this anime with a new adventure, or make a new one inspired by it to continue where the games left off, with Nero, Lady, Trish & Nico in the human world and Dante & Vergil navigating the demon realm… I’d also love to see the return of Patty… I’ve always wanted Patty to take after her father and become a devil hunter, even though Dante tried to keep her out of that life… given Capcom’s track record for ignoring their female characters, I imagine Kyrie could only receive a cameo :/

The superior Devil May Cry ship

Dante calling Lady a “babe” and continuing flirting with her when she rejected him multiple times in the one game is actually kind of creepy. Like, the game is old, so that excuse it (unfortunately), but shippers encouraging that kind of behaviour is weird as hell.

Saying Dante LETS Mary hurt him I think is a very poor interpretation of the events of Devil May Cry 3. Dante and Lady in their fights are constantly wrestling for control, with Dante’s main goal being to stop her from shooting him, such as pinning her arms against his shoulders. The Netflix anime taking this and making Dante blind to abusive behaviour and simply allowing her to take out her frustrations with demons on him is toxic, manipulative, and not Dante behaviour. Although he feels for her plight, Dante is aware he isn’t to blame to the behaviours of other demons. He himself tries to stop demons from harming humanity, but given his reactions in DMC1, he hardly likes being blamed for his father’s mistakes.
