well, it looks like you've already got your ask box open, so you've got the first step down. bonus points for allowing asks with media / anonymous asks :)

the trick to getting people to actually send in asks is to give them something to ask about. chances are, people aren't very likely to send stuff if you've only recently created your blog. get a good few posts out there, see what people interact with the most, and capitalize on it. even i'm still figuring stuff out. hell, i still can't figure out why i lost so much momentum after taking a break and closing my ask box a few weeks ago. i used to get an absurd amount of asks every single day, and now it's rare that i get more than just a couple per day. it's affected the pictures i post, too.

anyways, i digress. tumblr can be puzzling sometimes, but you'll get into the swing of things once you get into a posting pattern that you're comfortable with. just remember, the most important thing is that you're having fun!! your blog is for you. don't let other people dictate how you run things.
