Sportacus was truly full of surprises. Milford couldn’t even begin to make heads-or-tails of what on Earth the sports hero was doing when he kept holding the crystal up to Ziggy like a doctor doing a check-up. Actually, part of Milford was convinced that Sportacus was about to give him some kind of medical diagnosis once the elf turned his attention away from Ziggy. But instead, Milford’s eyes widened in shock at what he was told secretly.
“What does that even mean?!” He pressed anxiously, but kept his voice down to avoid letting the child overhear them. Whoever- or whatever- that child was, anyways. “Are you saying that this is Ziggy’s doppelgänger? They look, sound, and act like him…Â
“Are they a robot?” Milford’s voice carried a heavy sense of dread as his cowardice began to show.
“I don’t think so,” he said. “I’m not sure.”
This “Ziggy” spoke up, apparently overhearing the conversation no matter how well hidden it was. “Are we playing robots now? I want to play!”
Sportacus shook his head. “No, uh.. we were just.. uh…”
Who are you? What’s really going on here? The hero wanted to asked these questions directly, but how appropriate would interrogating a child be? Even if they weren’t Ziggy, even if he couldn’t feel them with his crystal, that didn’t mean they weren’t a real child.
Tongue tied, he looked over to Milford.
Oh dear, Milford wasn’t any better about being put on the spot, unfortunately. With Sportacus unable to wrack up an answer to the Ziggy-look-alike, it fell upon the mayor to step up. Milford instinctively cast his gaze down to the ground as he tripped over a few of his words, but suddenly his eyes lit up and he straightened his posture while pointing up as an idea finally popped into his mind.
“Oh! Actually, we’re not playing robots, but we’re playing hide-and-seek!” He answered confidently, giving a jolly chuckle. “Ziggy, Sportacus and I are looking for the other kids, and can’t figure out where they are. Would you like to help us look for them, dear boy?”
“Oh, wow! Really?!” The blonde child gasped, having bought into this harmless little fib without hesitation. “They must’ve picked some really good hiding spots if even Sportacus can’t find them,” He mused to himself.
