the thing is you are going to get older and you are going to die. you don't have unlimited time on earth. you have to spend all your time on your phone now
Being able to endure something does not equal an obligation to withstand it.
Ooh.
That’s a new thought.
i may need to embroider this on a sampler with flowers and skulls around it
Zack de la Rocha of Rage Against the Machine, 1997 [x]
Coming up on a year since I took a trip with one of my best friends, Jen, and my favorite memory was when we went to go watch the lunar eclipse. We were in south Dakota, and the trip had been carefully planned out by Jen with a very well curated itinerary. However, we left plenty of room for flexibility as I was 30 something weeks pregnant. That day, was a long and busy one, so we napped, and when we woke up, we realized we had a very small amount of time before the eclipse began. We had originally wanted to be in the badlands to see it, but we just drove until we got to a dark place.
I pulled into a small road that had a couple houses and went beyond those. At the end, there was some type of farm. I parked and pulled out my monocular that Bun had gifted me.
We tried to open the windows to the car, but the stench outside was prohibitively strong. It turned out we were at a chicken farm. I remember the sense of excitement me and Jen felt at seeing how the shadow started covering the moon. And how we got a little spooked when we saw something scurrying by the car. Then the car started making all these odd sounds, and it spooked us even more. We tried to distract ourselves by talking about the cosmos, and I love listening to Jen because she's so smart and soft and open when it's the two of us. She's so funny and tough too. Eventually, all the sounds outside got to be enough for us and we started getting scared that maybe the farmers would come out with guns. We love nature and wilderness, but humans are scary
In those moments, I felt like a kid again. I was new and my mind was satiated with these experiences. I want more of this type of abandon in my life
How decolonized I want my kids to be
