When Jason was Robin and his relationship with Dick had improved, Dick began the older sibling duty of being a complete inconvenience to his little wing.
Jason is reading? Dick is in the next chair over chewing really loudly on some chips (occasionally throwing some at Jason, who is either trying really hard not to laugh or death glaring him over his book).
Jason is visiting the tower and talking with some of the titans in the common room? Suddenly Dick is collapsing over the couch to lay half his weight on his brother’s lap and lament loudly how Jason only loves him for his friends. (Jason is furiously trying to shove his brother off while Dick cackles and clings further to him, leading to him being half draped over the couch half on the floor as Jason shrieks. Kori thinks it’s adorable and Wally is only faintly worried one of them will lose an eye.)
Jason is studying too hard (in Dick’s opinion)? Oh well, Jay is now stuck on the floor unable to write as Dick toppled over him because suddenly “gravity had overtaken him”! The only cure is listening to Dick yap for half an hour at minimum, and no Jay yelling at your brother to “move his fatass” won’t help free you faster.
Dick has to drop Jason off at school one day? Sure, but as Jason is dismounting from Dick’s bike, of course Dick has to be the embarrassing older brother and press an over dramatic kiss to his “baby brother”’s forehead and hug him tightly because Jay is “growing up so fast” (Dick proceeds to fake sob loudly if Jason tries to wipe the kiss off or dodge him)(Jason still refuses to forgive him for this particular act).
Dick still does inconveniencing things to get on Jason’s nerves sometimes, he just has to be a bit sneakier now considering a good portion of his old tactics only worked because Jason was so much smaller.
Cue him introducing Jason to some friends (or reintroducing him to the hero community), by first gushing over his “little baby brother”, y’know his little wing :)) and how he’s such a softie and a little emotional and just a grouchy teddy bear. Jason is red-faced and fuming under the hood, trying very hard not to break his intimidating stance as Dick goes on about more unbelievable descriptors.

On one hand, I’m grateful to have this little exchange between Jason and Dick. Dick’s affirmations and encouragments are so sweet, and the little “swell” is a cherry on top.
But also, the handling of this arc’s end always kills me. It’s so sad. Because Dick, after weeks of mental control and torture, over a year of lost autonomy, has to pick up the gentle warm face where he left it. He feels the need to apologize.
Which, sure, maybe at some point, but right after? And Titans are expectant of this apology. I don’t know. The response of “oh yes, you were a jerk and an asshole, but we forgive you anyways” in the immediate aftermath to learning that this was a product of prolonged mind rape… eughhh.
The entire response is lighthearted and frivolous and not acknowledging how victimized Dick was. Just apology accepted and return to form.
And the icing on the cake to me is Donna trying to give Dick leadership back right after and acting shocked when he denies it.
I don’t want to deny that leading was hard for her or that she didn’t want it. But to expect him to just pick up the burden again, to act disappointed when he doesn’t… it hurts.
Something similar can be said for Kory. She whisks him away, but only to be pushy about confronting their relationship problems. I’m certain they didn’t mean to come off this way. But making Dick once again be the unaffected source of direction and strength when he was, I cannot stress enough, a very recent victim of horrific circumstances, it’s terrible to me. You can’t act shocked when he’s so intent on hiding weakness.
"Yet for one solid hour this afternoon...after they came and took Jason away from me...I broke down and wept."

My friend reminded me of this joke from looney tunes back in action and I thought it was so funny that I decided to steal it
Your character doesn't need to be likeable. They need to be legible. The reader needs to understand every decision they make even when it's wrong, even when it's ugly, even when they want to shake them. Likeable is easy and forgettable. Legible is what makes someone stay with you for years. Make the logic of every bad choice visible. The reader doesn't have to agree with it. They just have to follow it.

DickJay week 2026 day 1, and 4. I can't find which were the prompts but I'm guessing DC vampires Dick and catatonic Jason
Their experience working together... how should I put it? It felt like a fairy tale. A magical, one-night-only kind of experience. Cinderella? Or Peter Pan? I’m not sure. Jason was the first Robin after Dick, but they only worked together for that single night, and then nothing else ever happened, unlike with Dick and Tim or Damian… Only one night. One. Fighting together, a rescue mission, free price train ride, fighting a killer crocodile… A fairytale-like magical one-night-only experience. I think that’s also how it’s in the comics (that they only go fighting together once) if not mentioned the interactions that were added into later. Hmm, this really matters to me.
*grabs you by the collar and shakes you hard* AND ON JASON'S FIRST NIGHT AS ROBIN IN THIS COMIC, HE WENT OUT WITH DICK. NOT BRUCE. HE WENT OUT WITH DICK. DICK, BECAUSE HE WAS THE FIRST ROBIN. DICK CALLED HIM BY HIS NAME. ALRIGHT, FINE, I KNOW THIS ISN'T CANON. I'LL SHUT UP NOW.

Percy: What's wrong with you? Nico: Off the top of my head, I'd say low self-esteem, a lack of paternal affection, and a genetic predisposition for anxiety and depression.
