He gives you very very generic gifts as a way to apologize but never actually apologizes. Plastic flowers because girls like flowers and these flowers are something you don't need to actually take of. He buys discount cheap chocolate boxes.
He stress tests the relationship because he's convinced everyone is gonna leave him. he doesn't actually put any effort into the relationship. He doesn’t call, he doesn't write, he doesn't talk about his day often beyond it was fine and then watches TV. He stays hours after work, drinking and then gets mad when you get upset about it.
He likes to sit down and talk but he doesn't listen, it usually devolves into arguing and screaming but he positions himself as the logical one and you're just being difficult. He wants to communicate but can't handle rejection.
He'll offer to pay to save his own face, he'll pay bills and buy things cause it's to be expected from a man but he resents the fact he's the one paying. He thinks him paying absolves him from house work, he paid for the ingredients and he expects you to be the one to cook it.
He's a very very insecure man who doesn't know how to truly express love but he tries. There's moments when you argue, he doesn't apologize but he tries to be better, maybe he'll cook your favorite meal or bring you to a show both of you love but then he loops back to being the same insecure man.
