Welcome to McAfee, Class of 2020! We are so excited to welcome you to your new home in the fall.
A helpful map of all of our social media platforms. :)
15 Reasons We Love McAfee
1. Because of the amazing community of friends and neighbors!
2. Because of the East Side-sized rooms with built-in book shelves, dressers, and sliding door closets. Also, wood flooring.
3. Because of House Council every Tuesday night at 9pm! The best place to learn about the goings-on in McAfee and Wellesley-at-large!
4. Because of the beautiful backyard, path to Dower and Lake Waban, and the McATree. It’s the perfect place for a picnic or outdoor study session!
5. Because your view is either the ever-changing foliage of the forest or the skyline over the rooftops of Wellesley’s campus.
6. Because of the full-sized kitchens, a private bathroom, and a washer and dryer on every floor!
7. Because of our beautiful living room. Did you know that the design of our lanterns is unique to McAfee Hall? (For real, read up on our living room. There are great stories behind our fireplace and our ceiling!)
8. Because of our amazing HP and her super awesome HP Teas!
9. Because our hall founder was on the cover of Time Magazine. (Seriously, Mildred rocked).
10. Because of the proximity to Bates Dining Hall (and homemade crepes)!
11. Because of BREAD & CHEESE NIGHT.
12. Because of our amazing ResStaff (including our APT) and the almost absurd amount of programming that they provide!
13. Because we’re so close to the ville it’s almost ridiculous.
14. Because we’re three minutes away from the best study spot on campus: the science center! As well as the greenhouses and arboretum.
15. Because of McAfee love!
The McAfee 20
1. Show up to House Council at least once. In costume.
2. Get snowed in with your friends and spend the whole day drinking hot chocolate and camping out in the common room.
3. Join a spontaneous late-night work party in the kitchen.
4. Build a giant pillow fort in the Grand Living Room with all your friends.
5. Bake cookies in your floor kitchen. Try not to set off the fire alarm.
6. Show up to an RA’s program. Bring a bunch of friends. Watch their face light up.
7. Take part in the McAfee orientation ribbon ceremony. Keep your ribbon all year.
8. Take (or leave) free food at the Bell’s Desk.
9. Store something in the cubby behind your mirror. Forget it’s there until 3 months later.
10. Relive your childhood by flying a kite in the fields behind McAfee - the way wind catches between the buildings is perfect for kite flying!
11. Go on a walk through the Wellesley Arboretum - it’s right across the street!
12. Ask your friends to borrow money for a late-night trip to the vending machine.
13. Befriend your floor custodian.
14. Help decorate the chalk board in the main entry way.
15. Get to know the RD, Stacie.
16. Have a party to celebrate the first snow of the year.
17. Make an event or House Council announcement over the intercom.
18. Ask a friend to pick something up for you in the Lulu so you don’t have to walk across campus.
19. Run to the Science Center to print something out and be back in your bed in ten minutes.
20. Blow off homework to have a picnic in the fields behind McAfee.
Balance Talk!
Balance is such an important part of college life, but it can be so hard to find. Join us next week as Claudia Trevor-Wright talks about balancing college life!
Who: Claudia Trevor-Wright, a favorite from Health Services
What: Snacks, a fabulous speaker, and advice that could change your college life!
When: Wednesday, September 16th, 8:30 PM
Where: McAfee Living Room
Why: Because a talk about balance in my first year helped make me a better student and a happier person. Whether you’re a first year or a senior, this talk is meant to help you find balance and make the most out of your college years.
Are there any magnetic surfaces in the room?
No, sorry!
Do we have AC?
We have a heating and cooling system, but no window-air conditioners. I would bring a fan for orientation, but you will not need it after September.
IS there hand soap in the bathrooms or do we have to bring our own?
There will be hand soap!
Where are the electric outlets in the room?
I can’t go in at the moment to take photos, but there are several outlets throughout the room, and with an extension cord, you should be fine.
Do you recommend taking a mini fridge ? Also what are something you recommend buying at the sustainability sale?
I don’t think you need a mini fridge, but if you want one they often have a few at the sustainability sale. Rugs can also be bought at the sale!
Where are the full length wall cork boards in the room?
They are on the wall opposite the window. You can see it on the left side of the first photo here: http://mcafeehall.tumblr.com/post/84226511147/sample-rooms
Which are the more party heavy dorms? And is the McAfee community tightly knit among itself and to the nearby dorms?
McAfee has a close community and is also closely tied to the Bates community!
Do the dorm room doors lock via keys or do you swipe a keycard?
Keys!
Do Mcafee girls go to parties on the weekend? Or are they more antisocial?
Just like any dorm on campus, there are students who go out and party and there are students who stay in. It’s hard to say for any given year how quiet or loud the group will be, because the population of the dorm changes every year. In my year as an RA, McAfee was more of a casual hang-out dorm than a heavy party dorm, but we still did have student who went out. I hope that answers your question!
Are there showers on every floor?
Yes! Four shower stalls and a private bathroom on every floor.
are there any other helpful websites for other halls, such as Freeman?
Not to my knowledge, sorry!
