Where did their name come from?
Howie came from me browsing a name site and seeing “Howell” and thinking about whether or not I wanted to go with Howell or Howard. Decided on the latter, and I just really love the name Bartholomew for a middle name.
I can’t remember where I got Sophronia, but it was around the same and poking around. I thought a cute simple middle name like “May” would be cute.
I also go “Eldon” and “Ulric” for this for El by browsing a name site.
“Beau” and “Whitby” was similar, but the transformation to “Bee” was just… cute? I thought it would be charming with his middle name ending with “by” and his first name being so close to “Bee” too… Sort of. Toss in him being born from a flower—originally a yellow tulip because those grew outside my bedroom window as a child so I have a fondness, but I changed it to red—I thought him being a “Bee” would be adorable.
Then… Shannon. Uh, this one is about to get personal. So I was browsing a name site, and I found out that Shannon can mean a few things, including “river”… and uh. Shit. So here’s the thing, I lost a child in pregnancy and named him River. And Vivian’s whole thing about the importance of Shannon’s name is taken from me, actually. Rivers are full of life and live forever, and with Shannon’s back story, it’s similar: Vivian’s wish that he could thrive for, well. Miles. Shannon Miles.
Vivian’s name is one I’ve liked for a male name for a long time, I’ve actually had a female Vivian OC in my teens, but she was flat. Because I created her in my teens. (She was a redhead and nothing like this Vivian. A nice person, a good older sister.) Anyway, I wanted to use this as a male name for a long time, somehow, and I’ve had the character behind him created for years. Like since 2007? He just didn’t have a name.
Graham is actually a recycled character, and I don’t recall where his name came from lmao
Not sure where Liddell came from, and I want to blame Harvestella (because of Princess Liddell—which is an Alice in Wonderland reference anyway, as the game has many of them)… Only I can’t, I started publishing Seasons on AO3 with that name already chosen two weeks before Harvestella came out. It wasn’t an Alice in Wonderland reference, though… so who the fuck knows.
As for Phineas, Mir, Gunther, Liesl, Shara, Martin… I don’t recall, I just thought they sounded good!
Rhett is a name I had for another character, different character, I just wanted to use the name again because that story died.
Edmund is similar, only he was just a background character, and that story/world isn’t dead. They both have sons, but the other one had a wife who gave birth to theirs. Haha. He was a musician, not a farmer. (I think Edmund would not be a farmer if it didn’t make Gunther so happy to have animals around, but he would also not like being a musician, as he suffers from sensory overload.)
Gideon was a name on a list of “names I might use someday for future characters” that was likely grabbed off a name list online. Some of Phineas’s children’s names are like that too.
Then there’s Cole. I just. Liked that name. I can’t recall why, it just is a nice name.
I think that about covers it for most of the Seasons characters, at least some of the more significant ones.
Oh I forgot Odessa...! I thought it was a lovely name and seemed so pretty, which... Everything around Sophronia - from her name to her fashion sense/appearance - is pretty...
I've used Judith three different times and twice in Seasons so we don't talk about that.
Jasper was a name I wanted to reuse because I love it after using it for a character for a game with a friend (I can't recall what game) and that not working out due to time constraints on both our parts. Haha. It was like DnD only not DnD.
