May I offer you a Klance meta in these trying times? (SPOILERS for S8)
right, so, i know we’re all hurting right now, and everything is a mess, but i thought i would do my best to add some positivity in the form of a brief(ish) analysis of pining keith and lance’s emotional needs this season.
now we all appreciate how emotionally supportive and caring keith was for lance this season, i think we can say that much. but i’d like to draw a little attention to the way keith angles the conversations they have, and why.
both times they start off talking about lance’s worries regarding allura. during the sunset scene (side note: i can’t believe there really is a klance moment we can refer to as THE SUNSET SCENE but anyway), keith picks this up and says something encouraging about her to lance.
but this doesn’t really work. it doesn’t successfully cheer him up. then, as the conversation continues, he subtly redirects the conversation to be about lance and HIMSELF. about THEIR relationship, not lance’s relationship with allura.
and THAT is what it takes to alleviate lance’s insecurities and help him to believe in himself. to believe that everything is going to be okay.
flash forward to later in the season when lance is once again worried about allura, and keith is once again there to support and uplift him. he starts off encouraging lance about allura, trying to talk about her as a means of supporting lance emotionally:
and again, it doesn’t seem to work. lance is still worried, still scared and frustrated.
and then keith yet again subtly steers the conversation away from allura, and makes it (AGAIN) about him and lance.
and THAT is what it takes to bring lance back up again.
THAT is what it takes to bring him back from the brink of losing faith. to restore his conviction.
Lance may be Keith’s stability, but Keith is Lance’s hope.
