Google goggles
This is an app I have started playing with after reading about it in the latest Macworld. Download the app if you are an Iphone user or to your Ipad. This app allows you to capture an image of something a book, landmark, artwork or text and google searches for it and gives you information. The librarian in me searched a book cover and was given a review, I can tell you it will be one of my favourite apps of the year!

Khan Academy - how one man wants to educate the world.
Found out about this guy who started the Khan Academy in America, he started tutoring his nephews over distance, then Bill and Melinda Gates have helped him out with their foundation. Mathematics and Science are his thing, here is the home page of his hundreds of videos on mathematics and science concepts and teachings. I would love some feedback on whether these videos are helpful to our students.

G = Google (do I need to hyperlink it?)
But what more is there to google. I will be hosting a more to google PD this term, but I would like to share a few good components to google searching.
Check out the left hand side tools specifically the more search tools, the timeline option is great especially for historic terms and then the wonder wheel gives a great diagram of search results in concepts or key terms.
If you are searching something topical try narrowing the search term by date past 24 hours or 2 days you will receive the most up to date entries.
Looking for different ways to use google that helps with the mammoth task of filtering currently done by our students. Book them in anytime for a lesson with me.
One more of my favourites for G is http://edu.glogster.com/ look out for the PD on glogster and how best to use it in the classroom.
