ATSI

Keep things local and teach from local country!

Country is what connects people, animals, plants, water and land to each other

Dont talk about ATSI people in past tense

Dont talk about ATSI people who live far away from here

there is no substitute for students learning from local community members and elders

Implement by: including ATSI people in books etc

Implement by: making explicit references to ATSI people

Implement by: designing a major project such as a school mural or a bush tucker garden

the best implementation is one that is part of an ongoing program that extends over a period of weeks

show that ATSI people living in the city also have a strong relationship with country

School based gardens

sbg teach children about healthy food and engage those children who might not be engaged in reading/writing lessons

engagement in sbg leads to improved student behaviour/attitudes, greater appreciation and respect for nature and improved nutritional knowledge

The Push Gang

Think we may have found a focus point Project within HSIE that Dray seems interested in! We have a few things in the works, but this really drew him in. He took all these photos, he said he will put it all together and do more research.

Hitting the Curriculum the hard way! 

We heading out to the Sydney Harbour Reserve ( Our old stomping grounds) to investigate and discover the Aboriginal history there. Our favourite beach, Reef Beach was used by them as a fishing and a "Midden". Tons of shells on the beach from feasts had there long ago.

Fire Safety

    RFS (Rural Fire Service of NSW Australia) - Five huge and wonderful books of cross-KLA units and activities for fire safety, local awareness and ecostystems from K-6 and 7-12. Also features material for road safety, fire fascination and home escape plans, and a section on 'preschoolers and fire safety'. Increasing complexity.

    NFPA's initiative. Adult sites include the main NFPA page, and Fire Safety at Scholastic. Student sites are the student section at Scholastic and Sparky the Fire Dog.
