Im just here to try and spread awareness and try and help people realize boundaries and maybe spread understanding as well. || Also just in general, Never send hate to anyone for things like shipping, headcanons, aus, etc, I can guarantee while you think your 'helping' cc's by harassing people who are Not Hurting anyone with fandom works, any CC would be upset by your behavior over the person you're harassing. Just block that person and move on. ||

Minecraft Personas Hot Take

Remember at the end of the day all fandom works are fiction and should not be intended, nor expected to be reflected irl. 

About Personas: Anything one does in a fandom space (Fanfics, headcanons, art, etc) should always be done with the Personas in mind, a degree of separation between the cc and the persona used in fandom spaces. These Personas can be influenced by the cc behind them, obviously, but here’s some pretty good rules of thumb to not do; (ofc I cant make you do anything but these are just good suggestions!)

Using irl info like cc’s parents, spouses, siblings, children, etc, in fandom spaces where they didn’t consent to being included becuase the cc’s chose to be in the publics eyes, their loved ones did not. 

Using info the cc doesn’t want used/has specially stated they don’t want used/spread around, and info that was gotten though things like Doxing/hacking said cc’s.

Real names. Usernames or nicknames using their real name obvi excluded (example, GerogeNotFound being called George). LAST AND FULL REAL NAMES SHOULD PROBS NEVER BE USED IN ANY SITUATION IN FANDON SPACES. Especially for minors, the fact some minor’s full names are public is really frickin weird. Just make them up if you need full names!!

Minors being shipped. 

Using CC’s to promote things like hate crimes, bigotry, homophobia, etc (like duh guys???)

Sending/Mentioning Fandom works in things like donos or emails, specifically fanfics and au works, to CC’s who haven’t asked for it. Just… dont bro. If they want to come into the fandom space, they can do it on their own terms. Especially don’t do this if the works aren’t even yours!

Maybe dont use the CC’s irl look 100% in fandom works. Like iv said before, there needs to be a degree of separation between the Minecraft Personas and the real person. Using how they look 100% irl defeats this purpose.

The best way to go about this is to use a blend of both the skin and the irl person, or just using the Minecraft skin! 

This only applies to those with human skins/human Minecraft personas, but always use the skin tone of the actual person rather then the skin! I know some people might not want to use irl features at all but don't whitewash CC’s becuase their mc skin is ‘lighter’ then their irl skin tone or make white CC’s with darker skin becuase their skin is darker then their irl skin tone. (Sapnap is a good example of this, his mc skin is somewhere between tan and dark, though irl he’s white and its a big issue that people in fandom spaces make him with dark skin tones when he is white irl, and other POC CC’s are being whitewashed.) 

Becuase when you have stories full of things like angst (them being hurt, shot, going though terrible things, sadness), you obviously don't mean for them to go through this irl but at the same time its perfectly okay to want to write an angsty story using these people, that's why you use them with the Persona in mind! Remember at the end of the day all fandom works are fiction and should not be intended, nor expected to be reflected irl.

I know its been a bit iv been into other fandoms lmao but iv noticed somthing every time I make or relog a post explaining that, no, in fact the CC’s are NOT their c!characters/personas (SHOCKING! I know) and they dont get to dictate how we write these characters in fandom spaces as long as not actually about the CC’S, which yes includes shipping.

And every time without fail people go “Ah yes I agree! Unless the CC has said its against their boundaries/unless its romantic ofc”

The CC’s are NOT the ones being written about!! They never get to dictate fandom spaces. I still cant believe that I could write a gore filled, horror hurt no comfort story about the ocs, or hell even the cc’s, being savagely murdered and tortured without ANYONE EVEN BLINKING, and yet people “Draw the Line” at me going ”Oh these two characters have alot of chemistry in the roleplay. I want them to kiss.” and declare me an awful or gross human being??

If you can accept that “Hey in this story this character is a god, this one is a Mob hybrid player, and oh also magic is real and these three are siblings” and know that oh obviously this is about the character the cc’s portray, then you can just leave us alone about shipping.

“But OP!" I hear you say, “The CC’s said they dont wanna be shipped!”

Let me ask you, in most questions about shipping, did people every clarify they wanted to know if they should specially ship their character and not them, or did most shipping questions go “Hi can we ask your boundaries on shipping” or “Hi is it okay if we ship you lol” or something along the lines? Becuase I can guarantee that if I was asked that question Id assume you were talkin about me and Id also say no.

Obviously though, if the fandom work/ship is actually about CC then no you shouldn't ship if they say they are uncomfy with it. There’s a difference between a character portrayed who doesn't have actual feelings vs an actual person who doesn't want to be shipped. Then obviously respect their boundaries and dont ship!! And if you come across people who do ship CCs? Still just block and move on, I can promise they will not change their minds 95% of the time. 

And for the few cc’s that did actually get asked to clarify they were talkin about their characters? Iv said it before and Ill say it again, CC’s do not get to dictate fandom spaces whatsoever, they never have, just like other fandoms dont let source material dictate these spaces either. Yes sometimes something they say can be taken into account but at the end of the day, people who do fandom works get to do what we want. CC’s are honestly more authors/actors of the characters they portray, specially in roleplay circumstances like DSMP.

Becuase if your gonna try and get permission for stuff like that, we might as well ask them permission if hey can we torture your character, hey can we make your character die to motivate another character, hey can we do this or that or this please?.... Do you realize how stupid that sounds? Would you sit and go ask the cc if this is okay before making any fandom works? No? Then neither should we about shipping.

Honestly dont try to bug CC’s about shipping characters and try and look for permission, you dont need it and most of the time CC’s just want to be left out of it or just not know as long as its not shoved in their faces.

If your worried about a CC coming across said shipping, then let me tell you something; Fandom spaces have ALWAYS been for the fans. If they come into fandom spaces and areas, and they see something they dont wanna? That's on them. Specially if its been fully labeled and tagged properly, they fucked around and found out. 

“What if they stumble across it on accident before they knew or didn't understand or, the horror, someone forgot to label something properly?”

GUESS WHAT! CC’s arnt your UwU babies who will break into little pieces when they find out their characters are being shipped. Maybe they wont like it but they’re big boys and girls and others, they can handle it themselves. I promise you they dont need you trying to speak for them, and I can also promise they’d be hella more disappointed in you harassing folks, specially if you send death threats over something harmless as shipping fictional people.

And honestly, if you dont like the idea of shipping even though its pretty established by now we arnt talking about the cc’s? THEN THATS FINE! You have every right to, hell I'm not even a huge shipper myself! I just think its cute sometimes and ill reblog it or read something with it if its intriguing enough.

And even more so, you have the ability to block! Block shipping tags and people who ship and move the fuck on, its not that hard. At this point people are pretty good at making sure shipping stays out of the main tag and has its own tags for it, so if your seeing it enough to bitch about it, it means you either followed someone who ships and that's on you, or you went searching to bitch about which is honestly a bit pathetic.

Leave people alone, make use of the block blog and block tag options, and thank you for coming to my ted talk.

We are not writing about the cc’s, we are writing about the characters and as long as we arnt breaking the actual CC’s boundaries, then the c!characters are free game, becuase that’s what fandom is and always has been and that doesn’t change now the medium isn’t a tv show or book. 

They are not their characters, even if they use the same name and/or general looks. If the cc’s can use these characters to tell a story, so can we regardless of how or what. Yes, you should try to pay attention to what a cc has said about a character but you are not required to listen at all regardless of your reason.

Stop going to cc’s and asking them how to dictate a fandom space, they have no power here and stop trying to dictate other fans when ‘their opinion doesn’t match the cc’s!’ 

This includes but isnt limited to;

making fanfiction, 

changing their sexuality/gender/hell even race (tho id avoid whitewashing because its just fucking rude, innit?)

That, and if they get to separate their characters from themselves, so do we.

Make this head canons, write those aus, ship those characters! They arnt real and its okay to treat them like any other fandom, because we are like any other fandom. Quick tips on how to use and survive Tumblr for CC’s and fans coming from twitter:

You have the option to turn on and off asks, submissions, DM’s, and anonymous messages. For CC’s I would highly recommend disabling all of these options until you’re open to chat with fans.

Your blog automatically has a section for posts you liked. It’s ultimately useless, because nobody will see your likes anyway on their dash. Turn it off because we all value our privacy here.

Tumblr is unlike Twitter and Instagram because it is mainly a sharing platform. Reblogs and comments in the tags are highly encouraged. Likes only add to the notes but are not an effective way to engage.

Download xKit to make your life easier. It’s an add-on that helps with accessibility on Tumblr.

You also have the option in settings to disable “endless scroll” on your blog and dashboard. This helps a lot with accessibility, since endless scroll can cause lag on your dash, unlike how it is on Twitter. Once you disable it, your blog and dashboard will be sectioned off into pages instead. It can help you keep track of where you are.

If you want to keep your blog organized for people to browse through, tag your stuff. Use personal tags, fandom tags, warning tags, etc… They’re extremely helpful for everyone involved.

Dont feel ashamed to block people, blogs, or tags! Nobody will know, and there’s no harm in it, this is your blog and even as a cc, you deserve to feel safe and content here. 

You and everyone else cultivates their own experience! Meaning you only see what tags or blogs you follow, or what you search up. If someone you followed for one thing doesn't post the same stuff anymore, there’s no harm in unfollowing if you dont want to see it anymore

This place is cursed sometimes, it just is. Most of the stuff we do/make is to make a joke (like the dilfza joke), and even then its not hurting anybody.

Dont try to tell others what they can and cant do, just block them and move on! Trying to waste your time doing so is just useless. 

If your a CC, we’ll respect your boundaries but please respect our boundaries as well. Some blogs have ‘cc do not interact’ in their bios or pinned. Fandom was cultivated for the fans and we exist here too, and some of us want to exist in a place where we can create fan content without fear, even if we aren't breaking boundaries. Sometimes, even if our content is 100% in your boundaries, we make it for ourselves and we dont want you to see them, specially if we get into really deep topics.

Fanfiction is just as much as art as fanart is! Not all of it is shippy or sexual or anything like that, dont treat it like it isnt! Its obvi okay if you dont ever want to read it but please dont bash it, we work hard to build and write and create really cool universes, and depending on your boundaries and what cc you are, most of the fanfiction there is isn't even about the cc, but rather the persona or c!character. As for fans, again, dont have to like it but its not for you, its for us, we write for us at the end of the day. 

If you get an ask that's upsetting in any way (hate, triggering, harmful, rude, ect ect) honestly I suggest you just block them. You dont have to but posting the asks often just gives them the attention they were looking for. If its serious enough to address, I suggest blocking them then doing a separate post talking about it. (you can block people, even anons, by going into your ask box and clicking the upper right three dots and clicking block)

This is just a tip but keep in mind most of us here separate the persona/c!characters from the cc, as in we treat them as a character you write/play, kinda like an actor or author. This is most prevalent in people who do rps (like dsmp, hermitcraft, any other myctblr stuff are honestly very good examples). What that means and how comfortable you and/or the cc about their boundaries depends on them, if ur a cc speak up about it but first realize exactly what that means before you do so. If you have separate boundaries for them then yourself, say so. (so ex. you as the cc could not be comfortable with Real Person Fics about you but could be okay with fics about the c!character/persona. Or, maybe your not conftoble with being shipped in real life but your okay with your  c!character/persona being shiped. Say so.)

This isnt twitter, if you (mostly targeted at fans but cc’s to) try to harass/cancle anybody, it mostly wont work. You will be blocked, people will move accounts if they have to, litery just block and move on. As for cc’s, im sorry but there will always be people who do or say things you dont like, specially about yourself. Yeah it sucks, but the best you can do is block those tags (and most people who do this type of thing are pretty good at tagging specific tags so you only find it if you search it) becuase its way better then fighting a loosing battle. Do it for your mental health, trust me, once you stop worrying about how to control others actions you live so much freer. (this isnt me saying people should break cc’s personal boundaries, but there’s no point in trying to fight people that wont listen. Its honestly best to state your boundaries cleanly and block the people/tags that do becuase trying to change their minds most likely wont work, as most of them are aware of what they are doing.)

C!Characters are free game in the MCYT fandom space, but what does that Mean?

Time to talk about C!Character and what you can do in a fandom space with them, specially about the more unwritten ‘rules’ of this kinda fandom. Specially for those not sure how to navigate a fandom space like this ‘safely’. (please keep in mind these are all my own opinions and ideas and shouldn’t be taken as 100% law, as im interpreting ALOT of what the fandom regards as ‘unwritten rules’ into a format people can understand) First off, as it stands, c!Character (and by extension, some personas even) are fictional characters. Maybe of them, yes, are based on their irl counterpart, the cc’s, but there is a degree of separation between them!  When doing fandom works or engaging in fandom, all works/talks pertaining to the actual cc’s boundaries should ALWAYS be respected, always.  However, the c!Characters? As far as im concerned, they should be free game to do whatever with. They are not real people, they are characters, fictional people, and thus should and can be used just like every fictional character ever. Ofc if the cc has mentioned anything specific about the c!Character (not themselves) you should try to follow it (in the case of boundaries, gender, pronouns, age, sexuality, ect ect) but you dont really have to, that’s what creative freedom is for! As long as you aren’t changing them out of malice, then its okay! (for example changing a c!character to fit bigoted, homophonic, for outside political views, ect. ect with the intent of being an asshole and doing harm) What this can mean; 

Hc/write the c!Character a different sexuality

Have a different set of pronouns

Be put in horrible situations (like a angst/whump story with pain and angst!)

Have them relationships (both platonic or otherwise) they dont normally have in canon

Explore types of relationships or reactions then dont have in canon

and so much more! Treat it like its a normal fandom in regards to the characters, troupes and story ideas abound <3

what this does not mean;

Sexualizing’s minors. Yes I said before they are not real people and a lot of the people who do, in fact, sexualize minors are minors themselves (and minors having crushes on fellow minors who are ccs are very normal!) but the fact they are tied to real cc’s makes this line a gray area and one that really shouldn’t be crossed in general, even more so if you aren’t a minor and are an adult. So while id consider the characters fictional characters, this is just a line better not crossed. 

If you make that sort of content? Keep it away from those who dont want to see it, nor shove it in our faces, Tag your shit and understand we dont want to touch it with a 50ft pole. That being said if you go looking for it, its your own fault for what you see. Its gonna happen regardless of if we want it to or not, better just pretend it doesn’t then worry about it/be subjected to it. 

Telling cc’s about it. Just leave them alone, its none of their business and if they want to come into a fandom space and read about their characters that’s their business, they do it on our terms!

Dont apply these ‘rules’ to cc’s, like I said, they are real people and while most actual RPF I see about them is pretty good at this, RESPECT THE ACTUAL PEOPLES BOUNDRIES. This is literally only in relation to the c!Characters.

And if you come across someone who breaks these ‘rules’? DONT FUCKING TELL THEM TO KILL THEMSLEVES. Id rather sit through 1000 gross, nasty boundaries breaking fics then have someone kill themselves over this kinda thing. Its fucking harmless, even the more ‘gross’ stuff and while you and I dont like it, nobody deserves to be treated that way over it. Find something you dont like? Block them and move on with your day, you’ll find like is so much easier when you dont worry and needlessly harass people over things you cant really change. 

So TLDR;  Characters should be free range in fandom spaces since they are not the cc’s and thus not or should not be limited by the real life boundaries, however you should be aware there are gray areas you probably shouldn’t cross even then  (This was brought to you guys mostly by the posts lately about ‘underage shipping’ and the shipping of cc’s lately in the fandoms, specially Tubbo and Ranboo and Tommy, as well as some of the adult people too)

If your going to go out of your way and make a cc aware of shipping by donating, maybe, just maybe be specific that you when you are asking permission to ship, you mean the persona/character they play and not them becuase; Sending a dono that says “Hi, I was wondering what you think about us shipping you” This implies that you are, in fact, trying to ship the cc with other people. Most cases, cc’s will not be okay with it. Try something like this instead-

“Hi, You’ve talked about your views on shipping before but I was wondering what your thoughts are on your characters/persona’s being shipped in fan works and not you, the content creator, yourself? Of course we’ll support your decision no matter what! We just want to make sure its clear.” Not only does this make sure the cc knows your setting a boundary and are accepting that there are boundaries, but this would also clear up the question ‘Does the cc not like being shipped irl or do they not even want their character to be shipped?’. It also supports the idea that people are making sure where the lines are drawn and many cc’s want to be clear as possible.

The Youtuber DocM77 isn’t actually a cyborg creeper with a tendency of making government agencies, and hunting his peers for sport. Doc, as a character, is.

The Youtuber Iskall85 isn’t actually a non-binary cyborg, who’s a former hitman. Iskall, as a character, is.

The Youtuber Grian isn’t actually a demi-god with three series worth of trauma, who’s queer and apart of Witness Protection. Grian, as a character, is.

The Youtuber ItsFundy isn’t actually a transgender anthropomorphic fox who’s part fish, and part human, and a spy with daddy issues. Fundy, as a character, is.

The Youtuber Dream isn’t actually a cryptid warmonger who can shapeshift into wolves, horses birds or whatever else. Dream, as a character, is.

Some creators separate them from their Minecraft personas, more than others. Most seem to separate and refer to themselves and their character, separately. Those are the occasions that myself, and a majority, of the shipping community, center out content and attention upon.

CC’s do not need you or anyone else to defend their ‘honor’ or anything in Fandom spaces. If someone is doing something the CC doesn't like or goes against what the CC has said, its between the CC and the people making fandom works and no one else.  I can guarantee most CC’s would be upset with anyone they found out was harassing/threatening people over this stuff.

MCYT Shipping in Fandom spaces

Remember at the end of the day all fandom works are fiction and should not be intended, nor expected to be reflected irl. Many people wont agree with me on this one but it doesn't make this any less true.  As long as they are being shipped with the Personas in mind and not the actual irl people (ie understanding that the irl people aren't actually being pushed to go out with someone and its all fiction), the people being shipped are of age, and its kept within a fandom space only with proper tags so it can be filtered out from people who want to not see it; Shipping is fine.  Why? Because its literally not harming anyone. Its a harmless work that has no consequences and I honestly cant understand why people think someone going ‘Okay here’s a cute story with these two cc’s who fall in love becuase I like their dynamic, Personas only!’ is worse then someone else writing a fic like ‘This cc has been captured and is slowly being tortured while their friends race to find them, iv described said torture and the agony the cc is going though is detail’ is somehow worse. They’re both works of fiction intended for fandom spaces only, there is no difference between them. 

If you are going to go through the trouble of making sure people are using personas for fandom spaces, then that applies to all rules surrounding them. You don't get to pick and choose. Either you follow what the CC has said on the topic, or you don't. You don't get to police others. 

If you don't like shipping? Fine, that's your choice, hell I don't really like shipping MCYT myself so I understand! Block and move on~ Sometimes people might think a ship BEWTEEN PERSONAS IN FANDOM SPACES AND NOT IRL is cute, the horror!!! I know!!!! Learn to cultivate your own experience and cut what you don't want to see out rather then try to change the world/space around you to fit you and your views perfectly. There will always be people you don't agree with and things you don't like. Trying to force it will only not ever work, but is pointless in the long run and I can guarantee you telling people to kill themselves or they’re scum for shipping wont make them change their minds. If people can write/draw/create ideas around things like literally being tortured or kidnapped or nearly dying and being stabbed, fics with body horror or them dying, sick fics, angst, whump, or even good stories like making them have/be family, have backstories, put them in universes, any fandom work ever, etc, then people can also do things like ‘Hey I think these people are cute together.’ as long as they don't harass or shove them in cc’s faces.

Also, for those doing shipping within fandom works; Anything with Ships should always be tagged accordingly. Most ships have names or ways to type it in the #tags that you can filter out. Some blogs also have specific shipping tags so you can block out stuff on blogs too. Never feel bad to ask someone to tag a ship. This goes for some fic sites too (I suggest A03, they have a great tagging system and its easy to filter out tags)

If you don't want to see ships, filter, block, ignore, and move on, do not harass people for it. It literally doesn't hurt anyone to ship in a fandom space, it does hurt to be sent hate for something harmless and meant to be fun. There are always living breathing people behind these blogs and pages and screens.
