non vegans going on about how faux leather is plastic when real leather is literally skin ripped off a dead animal who was bred specifically for this purpose.
come on guys, priorities.
I made a group on Goodreads for lonely people to talk about books, random non-book related topics, to talk to new people and make friends!
If you’re interested in joining you can search for “Lonely Readers” on the goodreads group page or the link is below:
A place for lonely people to talk about books, random non-book related topics, and to make friends!
Something I've noticed that kind of bothers me:
A lot of arguments on anti-vegan blogs that I've seen tend to center around the actions of vegans, not necessarily their ideology. It's a lot of pointing out crazy things vegans have done at protests, anecdotes about how someone's vegan friend says that they're evil for eating meat, and giving examples of vegans who have their facts about the industry wrong.
Very little of their blogs are arguing about the actual ideology of veganism. Meanwhile, if you go on most vegan discourse blogs, they mostly argue about morality, industry standards, the environment, etc.. There are some posts complaining about "carnists", but even then it's not typically giving wide generalizations that the majority of people in this one group act just like this one example.
And I'm not saying this because I'm trying to hate on these people or think that I'm better than them--I'm expressing a frustration that these people don't genuinely seem interested in arguing their positions, and instead it's about reaffirming and not challenging their opinions.

i feel like people here on the interwebs have really twisted the “there is no ethical consumption under capitalism” sentiment to mean “i can buy whatever i want, however much i want, from whoever i want, and i don’t have to give a single shit about it” instead of “capitalism is inherently unethical” and i think that is, to put it lightly, counterproductive
People relate more to health issues and the enviroment when talking about animal ag/veganism/plant based diets etc... and that to me just screams how desensitised and how as a society we are seriously lacking in empathy because its not enough for some to say “the animals don’t want to die, they don’t want to become your next meal”. It really should be that simple but it isn’t and as sad as that is for me it’s especially unfortunate for all of the animals involved.

It’s all protest this protest that until you mention the exploitation of animals huh?
because apparently this needs to be said AGAIN
in the most general aesthetic terms possible
1600s: most witch-hunts ended in this century. no witches were burned in North America; they were hanged or in one case pressed to death
1700s: the American Revolution. Marie Antoinette. the French Revolution. the crazy King George. most pirate movies
1800-1830: Jane Austen! Pride and Prejudice! those dresses where the waist is right under one’s boobs and men have a crapton of facial hair inside high collars
1830-1900: Victorian. Les Miserables is at the beginning, the Civil War is in the middle, and Dracula is at the end
1900-1920: Edwardian. Titanic, World War I, the Samantha books from American Girl, Art Nouveau
1920s: Great Gatsby. Jazz Age. Flappers and all that. most people get this right but IT IS NOT VICTORIAN. STUFF FROM THIS ERA IS NOT VICTORIAN. DO NOT CALL IT VICTORIAN OR LIST IT ON EBAY AS VICTORIAN. THAT HAPPENS SURPRISINGLY OFTEN GIVEN HOW STAGGERING THE VISUAL DIFFERENCE BETWEEN ERAS IS. also not 100 years ago yet, glamour.com “100 years of X” videos. you’re lazy, glamour.com. you’re lazy and I demand my late Edwardian styles
I just saw people referencing witch burning and Marie Antoinette on a post about something happening in 1878. 1878. when there were like trains and flush toilets and early plastic and stuff. if you guys learn nothing else about history, you should at least have vague mental images for each era
“Les Miserables is at the beginning, the Civil War is in the middle, and Dracula is at the end” sounds like the longest weirdest worst movie I’d pay to see in theatres five times.
Don’t ask me why I went vegan if you’re going to get defensive. Mind your business of you don’t want to hear the truth
Justifying the consumption of some animal products under the reasoning that the animals “aren’t killed for it” is just such a shallow way of viewing oppression. Cows and sheep may not be killed to take their milk and wool, but they will almost always be slaughtered once their profitable lifespan is over. Their children will still be taken from them and killed, or sold into the cycle themselves. Animals may not always be slaughtered in the process of taking what we desire from their bodies, but very few farmed animals survive their exploitation.
It’s all protest this protest that until you mention the exploitation of animals huh?
