2012 was such an insane cultural moment
no but for real . Gangnam style call me maybe riptide we are young . lana releases her first album and changed pop forever . Frank ocean releases his first album . 1D premieres . grimes releases genesis . and the movies. donât even get me started. the first avengers movie the last twilight movie hunger games the hobbit les mis. like them or hate them they were cultural phenomenons. minecraft was at its peak before it was deemed cringe and before the minecraft renaissance. 2012 was one of the last good years of youtube too . and everyone was rlly into moustaches for whatever reason
Party Rock Anthem, Payphone, Glad You Came, Donât You Worry Child, and Limbo all dropped in 2012 and weâre talking about Grimes??
And thatâs not even talking about the charts⊠Somebody That I Used to Know, Call Me Maybe, Stronger (What Doesnât Kill You), We Found Love, Starships, and thatâs just in the top ten
On top of all of this there was that whole thing about the world ending in 2012âŠthe frantic energy of it all
me watching song kang in nevertheless

THE BIGGEST FAT MOODđȘ
Me whenever I go online shopping:Â
i am obsessed with the idea of an article about an american artist being written the way american journalists write about foreign artistsÂ
As we sit down to chat, I am struck by the Americanness of his features (he looks like he has 64 teeth instead of 32) and demeanor (he is charmingly obnoxious). He is sporting a purple and gold synthetic fabric shirt. âLeBron James,â he says, hand on his chest, âlove that dude.â [A/N LeBron James is a player from a local basketball team called The Los Angeles Lakers] â it is not uncommon, even to this day, for Americans to retain old-fashioned values and beliefs such as sport idolatry. His American accent is very thick, almost unintelligible, but his humorous nature transcends any language barrier, at least until we delve into the topic of his tragic childhood. âWe had no bidet,â he admits, his blushing cheeks betraying his embarrassment, âand we used to eat frozen croissants and store-bought ragĂč bolognese.â He looks somber now, the ancestral sorrow visible on his American face. âIt was just really hard,â he says after a short pause, tears now welling in his eyes, âto grow up without the privilege of underage smoking and tramways like all the European kids.â
At the 1998 Grammy Awards, Pavarotti was too ill to sing Nessun Dorma. Aretha Franklin filled in on 20 minutes notice. This is the result.
Not only was the performance done on 20 minutes notice, she had no rehearsal and simply heard Pavarottiâs rehearsal once on a goddamn tape player and just listened, nodded and said she could do it. the most famous opera song in the world, on one of the biggest nights for music in the world, no rehearsal, and she just went out and did it.
thatâs talent
WHERE IS THE REST I NEED IT.
More backstory: sheâd performed Nessun Dorma at another event two days before, but got asked to take Pavarottiâs slot and basically instantly acceptedâ WHICH HAPPENED AFTER THE SHOW HAD ALREADY STARTED. (The producer didnât hear he wasnât coming until about 1:50 before he was supposed to be onstage.) She got a recording of Pavarotti practicing, and got to sit with his conductor and rehearse until it was time for her performance (the originally scheduled one) and for a bit of time afterwards. She didnât know that there was a 30-strong backing choir or 50-piece orchestra till she saw it on her way down. What a queen.

can we weaponize comfort already?Â
a lot of places have a culture that valorizes never sleeping and not eating right and not taking breaks and stuff like that.Â
fuck that. I want like
look at how comfortable and well rested I am. I am well-nourished, I take bubble baths, and I have a good work-life balance.Â
self-care has made me strong. has running yourself into the ground made you strong?
I will destroy you. and then I will have a pleasant lunch.
can we weaponize that?
This is the most metal self-care post Iâve seen in a while.
The world told me to hate myself; I realized the greatest act of rebellion was to love myself
