The series is fundamentally transphobic because JKR is continuing to use all the money she makes off of it to fund anti-trans legislation in the UK. See how she poured money into the Scottish TERF group who took their case to the British courts that got trans rights rolled back last year. That was paid for by people buying “uwu my childhood 🥺🥺🥺” butterbeers at Universal and hot topic Slytherin scarfs and fresh copies of the books from stores for their children who will grow up to continue the cycle.
Also, it does not matter if “people already pay for HBO and the show already paid its actors” because as you know, streaming services track their show/movie views. That’s why Netflix is infamous for canning projects early because “well not enough people watch it ¯\_(ツ)_/¯”, streaming services actively watch and count views given to the shows they make, there’s monetary incentives for them doing well, and if the shows are successful they get renewed for more seasons.
We do NOT need seven seasons of this show spawning merch and fresh purchases of the books and trips to universal that is all going to go directly into JKR’s TERF-y pocket where she will continue to donate to ways trans people and ESPECIALLY trans women become more unsafe.
I get having childhood nostalgia, these books saved my life as a kid, but you cannot be scolding people for “not respecting our childhoods” when said childhood love is actively part of a system to try and kill people
I want to make one thing very clear first — I do not agree with J.K. Rowling and her views. I used to admire her a lot, especially as a single mum who became successful, but I’m fully aware now that her views are deeply problematic.
At the same time, I think this conversation is being framed in a very all-or-nothing way.
There’s a difference between indirect and direct support. Yes, streaming platforms track views and success matters — I’m not denying that. But watching a show is still several steps removed from directly funding someone’s personal beliefs or actions. If we follow that logic consistently, we’d have to boycott a huge portion of media and corporations, because money almost always flows somewhere problematic.
I also don’t think it’s fair to say the series itself is “fundamentally transphobic.” It was written years ago, and the story doesn’t revolve around gender identity or target trans people in its narrative. Criticising the author is valid — but treating the work and every person who engages with it as inherently harmful is a much broader claim.
And this is where I disagree the most — the idea that people finding comfort in something from their childhood makes them complicit in harm. For many people, these books were genuinely important growing up. That emotional connection doesn’t automatically disappear because the author turned out to be problematic.
For me personally, it’s just nostalgia. I’m not even planning to watch the new show. But I’m also not going to judge people who do, because I don’t think that kind of blanket moral judgement actually helps anyone.
You can criticise the author. You can choose to boycott. That’s completely valid.
But turning it into “anyone who still engages with this is part of the problem” is where it starts to lose nuance.
At the end of the day, I just don’t judge people for still loving this series. I can have my own opinion about it, but I don’t see the point in hating on people I don’t even know over something like this.
with the hbo harry potter show coming out, here’s a few quick points:
jk rowling is an asshole TERF who gives money in support of anti-trans legislation in the UK. by watching this show, you are directly funding a transphobic woman’s work and agenda
harry potter is not that well written and is full of racist and homophobic archetypes, as well as poorly written attempts at morally gray characters that instead come of as sympathetic towards in-universe terrorists
do NOT send hate to the kid actors in this show. they’re children. hate the shitty author that is deciding to do yet another lap around of the one thing she’s ever succeeded in
Before anything else — I don’t agree with J.K. Rowling’s views. That’s not what this is about.
First of all, it’s not direct support — at most it’s indirect. Watching a show means paying for HBO, which has already paid for the rights and the cast. That’s several steps removed from “directly funding” anything.
Second, I don’t really agree with the way people frame the characters either. For example, I personally don’t like book Snape or Draco. And it’s not only me, many fans don’t like them. Snape is basically a bully who takes his issues out on children, and Draco is just a spoiled rich kid who gets away with everything because that’s how he was raised. At the same time, part of Snape’s character in the books is that he’s unpleasant to look at — greasy hair, hooked nose, generally unappealing. If you cast someone conventionally attractive, you’re already softening that character, regardless of anything else. And we’ve already seen this effect before. A lot of people sympathise with Snape because of the performance by Alan Rickman, who did an incredible job — but was also far more charismatic and conventionally attractive than the book version. The same goes for Draco: much of his popularity comes from the actor’s appeal rather than the character’s actual behaviour. When it comes to racism and stereotypes — yes, there are valid criticisms, but people love to flatten everything into one extreme take. If the new adaptation ends up creating problematic portrayals, that’s on the studio, not inherently on the original story.
That said, some criticisms are fair:
the goblins in the bank clearly lean into antisemitic stereotypes
the Patil twins got pretty poor costume treatment in the films
Cho Chang’s name does feel like a very surface-level attempt at “sounding Chinese”
But acting like the entire series is fundamentally racist or homophobic is a stretch.
Also, where exactly is the homophobia in the books? Dumbledore is gay — and no, the fact that it wasn’t explicitly stated in the text isn’t some kind of “gotcha.” The story is told from a child’s perspective. The romantic lives of adult were never the focus in the first place, regardless of orientation.
And finally — the hate towards fans is honestly exhausting. These are children’s books. A lot of people grew up with them. For many, they were a genuine source of comfort — sometimes even the only bright spot during difficult times. They’re also written in a very accessible way, which helped a lot of people who struggled with reading.
You can criticise the series all you want or the author itself. But if you’re trying to shame people for loving something that helped them get through their childhood, you’re not making a moral point — you’re just being condescending.
I see no point to hide it but like so many others, i grew up with those books and for so many years, "Prongs" was one of my pseudonyms on the Internet. But growning is also recognize those books are definitely not that good (and i'm really polite here) and more importantly, it's realizing the lives of real and living people are actually more important than childhood's nostalgia. So yeah, watch me judging people who still support an hateful person like JK Rowshit and her problematic work.

Macklemore cancels his show in Dubai to boycott the UAE in solidarity with the people of Sudan:
“At the end of the day I have to ask myself what is my intention as an artist? […] Although dismantling systemic oppression might not fully happen during my lifetime, our collective analysis is evolving. That is where it starts. When we realize our individual liberation IS Palestinian liberation. Is Sudanese liberation. Is Congolese liberation.”
He also writes:
“The last 10 months l've been learning what factors/motivators feed genocide and global systemic oppression. I keep getting led back to self interest over collective interest at the root. Capitalism is the glue that holds this ideology together. And if I take the money, while knowing it doesn't sit right with my spirit, how am I any different than the politicians l've been actively protesting against?”
Deprived of the Oxygen We Breathe in Gaza: Education
I took so much pride in telling Irish students and professors at my Irish university how proud we, Palestinians, are of having one of the lowest rates of illiteracy in the Arab World (Approximately 1%) and how much we cherish education. I also shed light on how the ongoing genocide has deprived students across all levels of their right to a proper education by bombing schools and universities and making the living conditions in Gaza just hellish.
Having been a lecturer at the Islamic University in Gaza (IUG) for two years, I have always seen the passion and determination in the eyes of my students whenever they talked about their life goals and dreams. Not only did this war kill their dreams but also killed many of my students. One of them is the smiling young man in the middle of the picture below Mohammed.
Mohammed was known for always having a big smile on his face that would brighten not only the lecture halls but also our days. I look at my chat with Mohammed on Facebook and think to myself: Is there any hope he would reply to his teacher if he were to send him a message?! Take all the marks you want, but please say something! Please reply!
For my students, education is a bridge to success in life and an opportunity to get equipped with the skills and knowledge they crave. It means talking to experts in their fields, mingling with like-minded people, and having exciting experiences. In addition, education is indisputably a noble form of resistance and entrenching existence. It is our most cherished tool to preserve our culture, values, and commitment to our land and rights as Palestinians. Depriving students of education is equal to depriving them of Oxygen.
This was the ending part of a play performed by my students named 'Sounds from Heaven'. It embodied the characters of iconic Palestinian martyrs like Al-Jazeera Palestinian American journalist, Shireen Abu Akleh.
Four months into the war, I was evacuated to Ireland to pursue my studies. Looking over my shoulder to see my greatly damaged house and family running from death from one place to another felt like ripping my soul out of my body. How does one work on his PhD research in such circumstances? How do you process all the near-death experiences and horrible images in your head from the war? What kind of therapy helps you cope with and accept your constant worry about your family? None! As the hope of a ceasefire diminishes every minute, the only solution I am left with is to evacuate my family from Gaza to Egypt until peace and life revisit my beautiful Gaza.
[Vetted by el-shab-hussein. # 151 on the list of Vetted Gaza Fundraisers List] 🍉🍉🍉
Hello. This is Mahmoud from Gaza currently studying in Ireland. May I ask you to please share my recent blog, read my story and consider boosting my campaign? It is vetted by el-shab-hussein and on the list of Vetted Gaza Fundraisers List #151 as explained in my recent blog. Thank you!
I combed through social media and tried to get every single celebrity who’s supported Israel — everything from sharing pro-genocide posts, to raising money for the IOF.
Additionally, I searched for all the celebrities who've supported Palestine (not liking one post while sharing nothing, not saying something vague about both sides, but actually using language like "genocide" and "apartheid" while talking about what "Israel" is doing to Palestine), and that's here too.
I compiled all this not to ~cancel~ anyone (cancel culture does not exist for celebrities) or put anyone on a pedestal, but to document who with power and influence gleefully cheered on genocide, and who decided to speak out and stand up for humanity.
You shouldn't look to celebrities for morals or politics, but whether we like it or not, these people have millions of followers — the pro-"Israel" list has more than two billion combined followers. What they say and do matters because of that scope. For better or (usually) for worse, celebrities influence public opinion. (And we can change that by blocking celebrities, like Bisan said — and we should absolutely start with the Zionists).
If someone praises "Israel's" "right to defend itself" (by committing genocide against Palestinians), and they do so in front of 300 million people: that goes far beyond just being complicit.

This post is a glorified blocklist, but hopefully it can also wake some people up from the disease that is celebrity ~parasocial relationship~ culture. Millionaire actors and musicians are not your friends, they're not activists, and most of the time, they're horrible, vain, out of touch, ridiculous people who care more about their money than the lives of people who aren't exactly like them.
I've gotten a few anons asking me to add certain people, along the lines of "add taylor swift bc she's been silent!!!" and "add jungkook bc someone who worked on his album is a zionist!!!" etc, and I just wanted to say: no, I'm not adding situations like that; this list is for people who've spread and/or interacted directly with pro-"Israel"/pro-genocide propaganda, accepted blood money, raised money for the IOF, supported Zionism or "Israel" themselves (not just working with a Zionist before Fall 2023), etc. Ignorance and staying silent are of course bad things, and you can form your own opinion on people who've stayed silent or worked with Zionists — but that's not what this post is about. This is for things a little more direct. The list of celebrities who've stayed silent would go on for days.
I included a list of Palestine resources at the very end of this post. Put your energy there.
PRO-"ISRAEL":
IOF Letter = they signed the letter in support of “Israel” and their military, saying “Israel” must defend itself by any means necessary against this “unprovoked” attack, and using language that suggests all Palestinians are Hamas/“terrorists,” and that all civilian casualties are worth it. SOURCE FOR WHO SIGNED IT. Link includes more names; I only included the ones I recognized as someone terminally online.
NOTE: “Israel’s” military calls itself the IDF — the “Israeli” Defense Forces. However, Palestinians and human rights activists call it the IOF, the “Israeli” Occupation Forces, because they are attacking civilians, occupying a land that's not theirs, and committing genocide, not defending anything (besides imperialism and white supremacy). Additionally, many choose to put “Israel” in quotes when referring to the settler colony, because “Israel” is not a real country, unless you support and believe in settler colonialism.
Biden letter = they signed the letter addressed to Biden, saying they are AGAINST a ceasefire, telling Biden that he’s doing a great job helping “Israel” with this whole situation, and asking for Biden to make sure there are “no hostages left behind” in Gaza (something he would have no control over, especially if “Israel” continues bombing Gaza, which this letter says they want). Islam has destroyed Muslim countries and then they come here and destroy minds. They know they are liars. Twisted justifications. May they meet their fate."

He's lost over 800,000 followers on IG since this partnership was announced, but some fans have tried to lie and say that he "donated to Palestine" so that makes this fine and okay; in reality, he made a donation on World Food Day (October 16) to World Food Program Korea, which provides food aid to many places and started donating food to Gaza in December, more than six weeks after Doyoung's donation. And as many Palestinians and activists have said: even if he did "donate to Palestine," which he did NOT do, that would make him doing ads for McDonalds significantly worse, since that would suggest he knows better but chose to do ads for McDonalds anyway.

Kpop groups being boycotted for currently having one or more members with Starbucks and/or McDonalds brand deals: aespa*, Ateez, BlackPink, The Boyz*, IVE, NCT, Seventeen, SHINee, Stray Kids
Additionally, there is a boycott against most major Kpop companies, especially HYBE Entertainment, due to the companies doing business with prominent Zionists (such as Scooter Braun being the CEO of HYBE America). Groups under HYBE: BTS, TXT, NewJeans, Enhypen, Le Sserrafim, Seventeen
*All members of aespa are now doing promo for both Starbucks and McDonalds, except Giselle, who deleted all promotional posts from her IG when fans tagged her in info about the boycott and Palestine. The other aespa members still have all posts up, despite also being tagged.
*The Boyz has one member promoting Starbucks, but a different member (Kevin, mentioned below) has spoken out as pro-Palestine.
Several idols mentioned above speak English as their first language and/or a few are known for being very online. These idols aren't ignorant or stupid; they just don't care. They're all adults in their 20s (or older) and they have no excuse, and they will be held accountable, just like everyone else mentioned above.
Despite Kpop stans believing/insisting that Koreans are all idiots who know nothing about the world, South Koreans are largely pro-Palestine, empathizing as a formerly colonized people and as human beings. A handful of capitalist Kpop idols are pro-genocide and pro-money, where getting some extra cash was more important than Palestinian lives.
Brands like McDonalds and Starbucks know exactly what they're doing, suddenly hiring Kpop idols during the boycott, given how Kpop stans are well known for being idiots who defend their faves no matter what, buy anything their faves promote, and put their obsession before everything, including (if not especially) their morals.
Clearly it's working, because the replies to NCT's Doyoung's McDonalds sponsorship announcement is full of people posting pictures of themselves getting McDonalds ~for him~, and "Seventeen best boys" is currently trending as I type this, with fans trying to hide the fact "Seventeen Israel" was the top search result before.
---
People who signed BOTH letters to Biden (the letter condemning "Israel's" war crimes and saying they want a ceasefire, and the letter praising Biden and saying they don't want a ceasefire and the US should continue helping "Israel"):
I've heard of a few cases where celebrities' agents signed the pro-"Israel" letter on their behalf without telling them, or what was in the letter(s) was very misrepresented to them, so idk what's going on with these people:
Bradley Cooper (currently dating one of the Hadid sisters, but has also starred in US military propaganda films)
Kirsten Dunst
David Oyewolo
Jordan Peele
Mary Elizabeth Winstead
Hozier is also not being included as either pro-"Israel" or pro-Palestine, because for years he was openly and explicitly pro-Palestine, but when it mattered most, when speaking out against "Israel" carried the most risk, he put out some bullshit "both sides are bad!!!!" statement. He's apparently changed his tune somewhat and started advocating for a ceasefire at concerts (the actual bare minimum, and of course not on social media where the world can see) — but it's still not good enough, considering we know he knows better as an activist (and an Irishman), and the damage was already done. He waited until after 10,000+ Palestinians were dead before he was willing to say anything more than the "both sides" shit.
Additionally, Gigi Hadid has been silent about Palestine the last few months, but is Palestinian and has spoken out in the past.

The denial of aid, fuel and water is collectively punishing a people. Humanity demands an immediate ceasefire.”

Kim Namjoon (RM of of Kpop group BTS) — attended multiple art exhibitions by Palestinians in diaspora who made art specifically about Free Palestine and "Israel's" apartheid, occupation, and genocide of Palestinians, and shared pictures of the art and himself at these exhibitions + he owns a piece of art about Palestine and when talking about it in a live vlog, to millions of viewers, called the country Palestine + reposted pictures of this art ~coincidentally~ on days when media reported that "Israel" had killed civilians (such as on Feb 18 2023, when "Israel" bombed Damascus, he ~randomly~ decided to share a pic of his Free Palestine art)
Note on Namjoon: I wouldn't normally include him, as his actions aren't as direct as the others on this list, but I decided to because of BTS's absolutely massive global influence and extremely impressionable fanbase + because he's currently serving his mandatory military service, where phones are taken away, their bodies are quite literally considered property of the South Korean government, and the only other "choice" besides enlistment is 2+ years in prison — so he doesn't exactly have the same freedom of speech right now as a white American celebrity, for example. He could’ve dodged the draft and gone to prison and used his celebrity status to draw global attention to the South Korean military's mandatory enlistment, but that’s a whole other thing.
Additionally, many BTS stans love to say that all the BTS guys “support Palestine,” because besides Namjoon, one other member once posted an unlabeled picture of Banksy’s vague artwork that was on a wall in Palestine (the Flower Thrower), so obviously this means all seven of them know all about Palestine. I’m not including that as being openly pro-Palestine, for obvious reasons.

One scene that particularly angered Zionists was when Redgrave interviewed Yasser Arafat, the chairman of the Palestine Liberation Organization, who said that "Israel" must be dismantled and that the solution to unrest in the Middle East must include the full liquidation of "Israel," and Redgrave agreed with him. The IOF and the pro-"Israel" terrorist group the Jewish Defense League put a bounty on Redgrave's head, threatened to bomb theaters showing her documentary, successfully firebombed one theater showing it (no one was hurt), burned effigies of her, and much more. She's also known for saying things like "The politicians, across Europe and the United States, with very few notable exceptions, are working to destroy people’s lives, plain and simple,” and more.

After Emma Watson made her post mentioned above (in Emma Watson’s bullet point), she was targeted in the media by "Israel," and in response, a group of celebrities released a joint statement in support of Watson and Palestinians, saying: “We recognize the underlying power imbalance between "Israel," the occupying power, and the Palestinians, the people under a system of military occupation and apartheid" (excerpt of statement).

Excerpt: "Half of Gaza's two million residents are children, and more than two thirds are refugees and their descendants being forced to flee their homes. […] As of this writing more than 6,000 bombs have been dropped on Gaza in the last 12 days — resulting in one child being killed every 15 minutes. Children and families in Gaza have practically run out of food, water, electricity, medicine and safe access to hospitals, following days of air strikes and cuts to all supply routes. […] The humanitarian situation has reached lethal lows, and yet all reports point to further attacks. Compassion — and international law — must prevail."
The open letter in the UK calling for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire and condemning “Israel” for war crimes:
Link to the 2,000+ people who signed it.
Excerpt: "Gaza is already a society of refugees and the children of refugees. Now, in their hundreds of thousands, bombarded from air, sea and land, Palestinians whose grandparents were forced out of their homes at the barrel of a gun are again being told to flee – or face collective punishment on an unimaginable scale. Dispossessed of rights, described by Israel’s minister of defense as “human animals”, they have become people to whom almost anything can be done. Our governments are not only tolerating war crimes but aiding and abetting them."

Excerpt: “We were devastated to witness the loss of innocent Israeli lives on October 7th, and we have been devastated, and called to action, watching Israel carry out its assault on innocent civilians in Gaza every single day since. Israel has killed over 20,000 Palestinians in Gaza, including at least 7,700 children, in the past two months alone. The UN reports that almost 2 million Palestinians, 90% of Gaza’s population, have been displaced from their homes. They are living in unsafe shelters without access to food, water, or basic healthcare. As winter nights get colder, disease is spreading. Gaza is past the point of collapse – the UN has described its state as “apocalyptic.” We say enough.”
Celebrities who signed the Letter Against Apartheid in support of Free Palestine (2021): Read the full list of names here.
Excerpt: "We call for an immediate and unconditional cessation of Israeli violence against Palestinians. We call for an end to the support provided by global powers to Israel and its military; especially the United States, which now provides Israel $3.8 billion annually without condition. We ask all people of conscience to exercise their agency to help dismantle the apartheid regime of our time. We ask governments that are enabling this crime against humanity to apply sanctions, to mobilize levers of international accountability, and to cut trade, economic and cultural relations. We call on activists, and especially our peers in the arts, to exercise their agency within their institutions and localities to support the Palestinian struggle for decolonization to the best of their ability. Israeli apartheid is sustained by international complicity, it is our collective responsibility to redress this harm."

HOW TO HELP:
US and Canada residents: find a protest near you here
How to protest safely
Contact your reps and tell them you will not vote for anyone who approves of genocide
US residents: Download the free app “5 Calls” and set your zip code, and it will give you the phone numbers of your representatives, as well as a script for what to say to encourage them to de-escalate and vote for a ceasefire
Via yurgir: if you're european, you can go to this site, click on your country at the top bar, and it will tell you how to reach your representatives and also provides an already written script which you can simply copy and paste. alternatively, this google doc also provides scripts for different countries.
***BOYCOTT THESE COMPANIES***
There is also currently a boycott against Starbucks, in addition to the official BDS boycott list, because the former CEO and current board member is a Zionist, and because Starbucks fired a bunch of employees for being pro-Palestine, and after the Starbucks Workers United union made a statement saying they support Palestine, the company made a big stink about how the union "doesn't represent the company's values" (and that's in addition to the other ways they mistreat employees, and all this is besides the fact they're documented using child slave labor in producing their coffee beans and chocolate). Starbucks also regularly donates to the IOF, just like the other boycotted companies. From abusing employees, to funding genocide, to getting their coffee and chocolate from child slave labor, Starbucks is a great company to boycott for many reasons.
a thread of ways to support Palestine

combat propaganda online, in person, or even by just having a conversation with one person — do not underestimate the power of word of mouth. tell everyone you know how you feel about Palestine; don't just read about it and despair while doing nothing. being on the right side of history has never been popular or easy.
Continue spreading Palestinian voices. Do not stop sharing voices from Palestine. Do not spread hopelessness or anything about parts of Gaza being "successfully" ethnically cleansed. We owe Palestinians our resilience and our hope that Palestine WILL be free, within our lifetimes.
Do not quote or reply to pro-"Israel" accounts on Twitter. "Israel" is paying people to spread propaganda and lies — do not make their job easier. Do not give them attention or views — replying/quoting will boost them. Do not let them succeed in their goal. Just block them and boost Palestinians, or screenshot them and then block, if you absolutely must react/respond to what they're saying.

I'm not linking that "click for Palestine" thing because donating 50 cents once will give more than clicking that thing every single day for two years.
The original tweet I got this from says via 2024Blockout. I couldn't find the @ on Twitter so it's likely a TikTok account.
The goal is to block any major celebrity who hasn't spoken up about Gaza in order to cut off their means of making money off of us. If their videos and ads don't appear on our TLs and FYPs, that means no revenue for them. There's some videos going around explaining this campaign in depth better which I'll post later on, but I'm liking the idea and blocking whoever I can on Twitter and IG since I don't have TikTok.
