Roses are red, that much is true, but violets are purple, not fucking blue.
I have been waiting for this post all my life.
They are indeed purple, But one thing youโve missed: The concept ofย โpurpleโ Didnโt always exist.
Some cultures lack names For a color, you see. Hence good old Homer And his โwine-dark sea.โ
A usage so quaint, A phrasing so old, For verses of romance Is sheer fucking gold.
So roses are red. Violets once were called blue. Iโm hugely pedantic But what else is new?
My friend youโre not wrong About Homerโs wine-ey sea! Colours are a matter Of cultural contingency;
Words are in flux And meanings they drift But the word purple Youโve given short shrift.
The concept of purple, My friends, is old And refers to a pigment once precious as gold.
By crushing up molluscs From the wine-dark sea You make a dye: Imperial decree
Meant that in Rome, to wear purpura was a privilege reserved
For only the emperor!
The word โpurpleโ, for clothes so fancy, Entered English By the ninth century
.
Why then are voilets Not purple in song? The dye from this mollusc, known for so long
Is almost magenta; More red than blue. The concept of purple is old, and yet new.
The dye is red, So this might be true: Roses are purple And violets are blue
.
While this song makes me merry, Tyrian purple dyes many a hue From magenta to berry And a true purple too.
But fun as it is to watch this poetic race The answer is staring you right in the face: Roses are red and violets are blue Because nothing fucking rhymes with purple.
IT GOT SO MUCH BETTER.
My reaction, only with coffee.
Hang on, need to send this to my literature prof

The drag queen from this photo has spoken up about the photo.
I wonโt speak for all liberals, but Iโd like to see a future where it isnโt a big deal for a woman in full modesty garb to sit next to a drag queen in NYC. Itโs become a bit of a sensation, but her and I were just existing. The freedom to simply be yourself in a sea of people who arenโt like you is a freedom we all deserve.
The central irony is that this isnโt some hypothetical futureโitโs just present day reality. This is a picture of two ordinary people going about their normal lives despite how haters want to politicize it lmao. So the underlying message is not โfuture liberals wantโ itโs โpeople conservatives want to eradicateโ
the underlying message is not โfuture liberals wantโ itโs โpeople conservatives want to eradicateโ
*coughs* louder for the people on the back:
the underlying message is not โfuture liberals wantโ itโs โpeople conservatives want to eradicateโ
THIS.
โIt is good like this: this light on our misery, this beauty near our death. Enough to keep on writing books, painting canvases, loving, and composing music. To try to hold the day against yourself.โ

Chetan Bhagat >>
The second I finished my book, we had to start discussing the qualities of an ideal roommate once you live in Spain- this occupied my mind and I could not think of how this book has affected me
so dramatic and just- never have I ever been in love with an author and their writing and Chetan Bhagat hasn't even written books like Oscar Wilde & Charles Dickens
"The Girl in Room 105" is just a murder mystery with dramedy and romance- the protagonist is eating chole bhature and the police inspector in charge only gives a *fuck* about his promotion while he hogs free coffees from Starbucks- it's that *fucking* simple yet I can't grasp it
I'm so glad I finally finished it though, in less than 24 hours that too
feels somewhat like an accomplishment but at the same time I feel as if I've failed
this book has been on my tbr list for the longest time and after months of searching for it, I got my hands on the only book in my school library which only has one copy
the suspense is gone, and the mystery is gone, part of me was hoping for for a huge climax but just as the book's successors, Keshav Rajputrohit decided to blame someone else at first, made a fool out of everyone and then finally uncovered the real murderer.
but anyway, I have learnt so much from reading Chetan Bhagat's novels- something about building suspense and the art of writing and even how to have an affair and hide it, how to kidnap and murder someone while putting the blame on someone else and even how brutal and disgusting people can be.
this is the part where I talk about how I love his writing
simple writing, no fancy words not many double meanings but a huge impact
never give up
sexy title -> even more suspense
v v relatable -> romance, IIT, unemployment, and whatnot
save me, lord
and while so many people would totally disagree with me about Chetan Bhagat being a "good" author, let me just hand you his books so we can have lengthy discussions :)
love and light,
