Natalie sat down at the empty table with Melena and pointed her fork at her. “I hope you do so enjoy it then,” she said to her before using the fork to slice a small piece of the Lemon Meringue to take a bite.
Natalie chews on her piece of pie and swallows before looking at Melena once more. “Perhaps they are scars upon our very souls, one’s we will forever have to carry.” She sets her fork down upon her plate and takes another breath to steady herself. Melena’s offer reminded her of how few friends she does have, and how they would help her if she was like this around them. “Thank you, I know it must be strange to offer comfort to a stranger. Perhaps later if it is not too late when we leave the fair we can go get a drink; or another night if you would prefer that.”
The pie sitting in front of her smelled heavenly and as the fork dug into the piece in front of her, she couldn't help but notice that the aroma was only getting better. As she took the first bite, she couldn't help but grin. It really was as amazing as Natalie said it would be. "You weren't kidding Natalie." Melena said between bites. "This pie really is amazing."
Melena thought about what Natalie was saying and gave a sad smile as she nodded in agreement. "Unfortunately I think you are right about that as well. But scars will heal, it just takes time." She added before taking another bite of her pie. Melena was shocked by Natalie's invitation to spend more time together. Not that it wasn't welcome, she was genuinely enjoying Natalie's company. She just still wasn't used to having people actually want to spend time with her. "There is no need to thank me, I was just doing what felt right. You know, I would love that."
