This is my great-grandmother's travel journal from trips she took and family time in the summers. This page documents their July 4th in 1955. Family, fishing, barbecue. #merica 🇺🇸

I think there is a certain age, for women, when you become fearless. It may be a different age for every woman, I don’t know. It’s not that you stop fearing things: I’m still afraid of heights, for example. Or rather, of falling — heights aren’t the problem. But you stop fearing life itself. It’s when you become fearless in that way that you decide to live. Perhaps it’s when you come to the realization that the point of life isn’t to be rich, or secure, or even to be loved — to be any of the things that people usually think is the point. The point of life is to live as deeply as possible, to experience fully. And that can be done in so many ways.

Maybe one day I'll get there. Maybe I'm close?
Most people do not grow up. We find parking spaces and honor our credit cards. We marry and dare to have children and call that growing up. I think what we do is mostly grow old. We carry accumulation of years in our bodies and on our faces, but generally our real selves, the children inside, are still innocent and shy as magnolias.

There's something about being able to watch the pendulum swing back and forth, back and forth, that puts life and time in perspective. There's an incessantness and comfort about it, but yet somehow also a subconscious anticipation for what may come next, as if the tick-tock may stop or slow down. Then comes the chime marking another half hour or hour's passing, and we take for granted that it's just always going to keep ticking. #doesanybodyreallyknowwhattimeitis #grandfatherclock
When your grandfather was the personal chef for the general in the Army, and he wants so share all his cooking secrets with you, you listen. And take notes. 🍴🍰🍳#grandparentsarethebest

Wake up and open your curtains. Your windows too.
Drink some tea or coffee, whatever pleases you. Notice every sip.
Have some fresh fruit and finish breakfast feeling full.
Stand outside and feel the air. Cool or warm, it will make you feel real.
Get some exercise. Yoga to soothe, running to breathe, lifting for strength.
Take care of your body. Have a nice shower and pamper as much as you want afterward.
If you’re going to work, remember you have the chance to make anyone’s day or to ruin it. Act accordingly.
Weed out the bad language. It’s only creating tension in your body and mind. Kind words are infinitely more appreciated.
Take some time each day to improve your mind. Keep reading that great book. Listen to an incredible piece of music. Practice an instrument or a skill. The progress is its own reward.
Pictures will help you remember how wonderful life is. But spend less time on your phone and more time seeing the world face to face.
Go to sleep knowing that you have done well. Tomorrow is there with room to become even better.
-Notes to myself on how to become a better person this summer.
Good reminder and valuable advice.
Let love grow.
