Éothain is a Rider of Rohan turned Éomer's secretary after he sustained an injury and lost his leg in the Battle of Pelennor Fields. Éothain is exacting, hard-working, loyal and at times persnickety, in the best tradition of disgruntled civil servants. In Éomer's words, he wields his pen as enthusiastically as he once swung a sword, and was perhaps more suited to the former all along.

We have a bigger draft on this and other things re Tolkien's Legendarium and disability, but: Maedhros, but after Thangorodrim he is severely disabled for life. The canonical "his body recovered from his torment and became hale" is nothing but ableism, desire to minimize disability.

Some of the things could perhaps indeed heal but over perhaps centuries rather than weeks. Some could never heal.

Tolkien didn't write his hand regrowing, so even canonically even elven regeneration has limits, and also all this even if it didn't.
