I may be just a tad obsessed with @broodsmusic...
Currently streaming on Spotify...
Hello, gorgeous.
Broods - Mother & Father "BROODS" EP is available now on iTunes: po.st/BROODSso http://broods.co/ facebook.com/broodsmusic twitter.com/broodsmusic instagram.com/broodsmusic
Hannah Grace - Meant To Be Kind
Wow. Just wow. I saw that Gabrielle Aplin shared this song on her Facebook account, and since I am a huge Aplin fan, I figured this would probably be good. Well, I was wrong. This song is GREAT. It starts off slow, with pretty vocals and a nice indie sound and, by the chorus, there's just so much raw emotion and power. It's going to be hard to not listen to this on repeat all day.
More from Hannah Grace: YouTube, Facebook, Twitter.
Indila - Dernière Danse (Last Dance)
Thank you, Spotify, for introducing me to Indila and her gorgeous voice. With over 75 million views, I am surprised I am only hearing about her now, though I suppose it makes sense since she does sing in French. That being said, even though I cannot understand the lyrics without Google translate, I can still hear the sad and almost desperate undertones coming across through her vocals and the music itself. This song just gets better and better with each listen.
I highly recommend checking it out for yourself and, if you like her, you can find out more about Indila on YouTube, Twitter and Facebook. Her entire album, Mini World, is also streaming on Spotify.
Lana Del Rey - “Shades of Cool”
Here’s a new one from one of my top favorite female vocalists, Lana Del Rey. The Stereogum article about this song sums it up perfectly: “it’s a gloomy, jazzy waltz with a big chorus — major James Bond trad-pop vibes.” This track is all of those things, is definitely unique and interesting, and makes me eager with anticipation for her new album, Ultraviolence, to drop in mid-June.
For more from Lana Del Rey, check her out on Twitter, YouTube and Facebook.
Lykke Li - "No One Ever Loved"
If you've never listened to Lykke Li before, well this song will make it easy for you to fall in love with her right away. I stumbled upon this gem when I was perusing Spotify one day, and I got totally hooked. It's a beautiful song, full of love and longing, which makes it a perfect addition to the soundtrack for "The Fault in Our Stars", soon to be released in theaters in the US.
So give this a listen, and check out more from Lykke Li on Facebook, YouTube and Twitter.
Sam Smith - "Latch" If you haven't heard of Sam Smith by now, well you soon will. His first full-length album is set to drop next week in the UK, and next month in the US. His voice is absolutely stunning. Stunning in the way that Adele's was when I first heard it. When I listen to his vocals, I literally cannot focus on anything else around me. This version of "Latch" is especially beautiful, and the lyrics get me every time. You can check out the original here.
Hooked yet? For more Sam Smith, check him out on YouTube, Facebook and Twitter.
Tristen - "No One's Gonna Know"
Today's share is from an artist I recently discovered via Music For Music Lovers Who Love Music. Tristen has a pretty unique sound, and reminds me of another artist I adore, Esthero. This song in particular caught my ear because it has a bit of a reggae vibe, coupled with an indie pop sound. I liked it instantly, and it's in constant rotation on my Spotify playlist.
For more from Tristen, check her out on YouTube, Facebook or Twitter.
Meg Myers - "Adelaide"
Don't be fooled by her pretty looks, and demure appearance, Meg Myers writes songs with venomous lyrics (and accompanying vocals) that are sure to resonate with many who have experienced heartbreak or were wronged by a lover. What I like most about Meg Myers is how unexpectedly catchy some of her melodies are, especially "Adelaide". I fell in love with this track the first time I heard Meg Myers play it live. Have been a fan ever since. Find more from Meg Myers here: official website, Facebook, Twitter, Soundcloud, YouTube and Tumblr.
Oh, and did I mention that I actually met Broods?
Broods - "Never Gonna Change"
If you've never heard of Broods, well now you have.
Bottom line: this Kiwi brother/sister duo write their own music and lyrics, and got their big break by launching their first song, "Bridges" on Soundcloud, initially just to share with friends and family. "Bridges" quickly blew up and caught the attention of Lorde's producer, and now Broods are finishing up their North American tour and are then headed back home to start recording their full-length album due to drop sometime in August.
Georgia Nott's velvety voice layered with Caleb Nott's amazing downbeats make their unique sound something you will not easily forget. Broods are truly a talented duo and not one to be missed.
For more on Broods, check them out on Spotify, Soundcloud, YouTube, Facebook and Twitter.
First.
Hi, folks.
So, it seems the time has come for me to formalize the way in which I memorialize and share one of the things I am most passionate about in this world: music.
There's not a day that goes by where you won't find me obsessively playing a newly discovered song on repeat or trying to find a way to see my favorite artists live at an obscure NYC venue. Music gets me through my day, every day.
But one of the things that makes me feel the best about music is being able to share it with friends and loved ones. And when I find a song that hits the spot, and I know I have made someone's day, well that is everything to me.
So, if you'll allow me, I'd like to give back and share with you some of the stuff that keeps me going. And maybe, just maybe, I'll stumble upon a song that keeps you going too.
~Mel
