Here are some photos of a mass market sized bind I did back in December for my dearest trophy wife Starry (@/starryroyalty on twt!). I'll admit that I'm not much of a bkdk so I haven't read this one, but she LOVES it and it was really fun trying to figure out how to design it without knowing it's Contents. I am not saying that zuko is sokkas substitute for kya. or they look in any way similar! The whole concept here is that something was happening at the moment, be it how they were laying in bed, how the hair pooled over the pillow, or how sokka was able to hold onto it. It just brought sokka back. It triggered a memory, and suddenly he relived a brief memory. Making him suddenly miss his mother again. hope you enjoy!

I wanted to go a bit more in-depth with this piece that I did for zukka week 2023 because i got inspired to do more insane clothing details. ID in ALT.

Ramble about the influences/inspirations below:

Design inspirations for Sokka's clothing are mainly Inuvialuit and Yup'ik, with Nenets, Tlingit, and Chukchi inspiration for the tassels, patterns, belt and beadwork. I mixed these with the ornaments canon shows us used by the Northern Water Tribe, and also in Legend of Korra. I got particularly excited about drawing from Inuvialuit sources since the tassels we see in canon look like they could be inspired by this. Going beyond canon's animation-friendly colour scheme, I drew from Nenets patterns/embroidery/sashes and Yup'ik beadwork for accent colours. I think in the future I'd like to find ways to incorporate more Tlingit-style patterns since I rarely see them in fanart (which is a shame - they're stunning), but since they tend to be very big I ultimately decided to only include them as a nod in order to keep the regalia recognisable as 'Water Tribe'. I wonder if I could start using Polynesian influences as well?

Zuko's headdress and particularly the shoulder garment and beaded embroidery draw heavily from women's clothing styles of Lê Dynasty Vietnam. The other main influence is men's royal clothing in Tang Dynasty China, and patterns worn by Mongolian Khatun. Since we have a bit more to go on in canon as to what fire nation regalia looks like, I blended that in as well. I got particularly excited about the embellishments on Lê Dynasty clothes because I could give a little nod to Zuko's dragon-fire by adding more colours to the embroidery. In the future I think I'd want to make the Mongolian influence a bit more obvious... perhaps even push the envelope by incorporating some Bashkir designs, though I'm not sure how well that will go.

u know before yellow emojis took over as automatic, the one we used for this exactly was O_O . which has unfortunately become the shortcut for the stupid blushy one. but we also used to emphasize the emotion by making the mouth bigger, O_________O . there was also o_O , for when you're weirded out, and o_o for small weirds or intrigue. you could use a period instead of an underscore for the mouth, o.o, O.O, which was a little more like shock.

there was also -_- for when you're annoyed. -_-* for pissed. the asterisk is a forehead vein. a very bad day or very bad joke could result in -___________-********** .

Second part to previous surprisingly popular (thank you so muuuuuuch!) comic. Sorry it took so long >.<

so a bunch of headcanons because drawing this I had wayy too much time to come up with them ;P

Sokka is the only non bender to ever win a (team) bending championship. As a true older brother he had to rub it in Katara’s face. Just so she knows who is the true certified bending champion in this family ;P

He coincidentally also rubbed it in not-very-precise-at-creating-rules championship organizers faces so for next year tournament they coincidentally made more precise rules. Which pissed Katara off enough so that she postponed her responsibilities and took Sokka’s place (because he may be an idiot older brother but he is HER idiot older brother). Championship organizers quickly learned their lesson, changed back the rules and very nicely asked if maybe the funny-bucket-guy can come back next year.

Because balance is important in sports funtimes also. You can’t have 2 overpowered forces of nature in one team. Especially if one of them is there out of spite. But one (1) compact force of nature + one (1) funny bucket guy + one (1)  serious theater nerd  make a perfect and very entertaining team. Especially with their superior coordination in costume department.

Speaking of Zuko. He totally came up with some cool af but also nerdy name that clearly suggests who is behind the mask (which he doesn’t take off). Just to have the endless supply of entertainment at the expense of nobles trying to find polite way to ask if maybe The Fire Lord decided to take weekend off and indulge in some “lowly commoner unelegantly brutal excuse for entertainment”.
