Yoichi isagi! Is the type of guy to love laying on his partner. On their chest, on their stomach and especially on their thighs. He's the type of man to want to be physically on top of you, sleeping with no gaps between you two. While he loves laying on his partner's chest, if it's offered, he will 100% pick to sleep on their thighs. There is something so perfect about cuddling, with his head on your thighs and his phone in his hand while his partner plays with his hair.
Warnings: literally none except slight internalized homophobia and a lil angst. Also, this isnt perfectly lore accurate since mello has his scar before the Kira case in this fic!!
That warm summer night that mello left the wammy house, matt remembered the hug before he begged mello to not leave, the way his eyes went wide when suddenly mello grabbed his face and kissed him before finally, evidently leaving that orphanage. Now....4 years later, Mello is 19, Matt is freshly 19. It all came crashing back to their memories when they saw each other through the crowd of a party. Both the flashing lights and loud music are drowned out by the flooding memories of that orphanage. Mello wasn't the party type. He never had been, but that one night, his 'friend', really a member of his Mafia base, was too scared to go alone to the party in case someone got caught. So he went; and when he saw that pretty boy and his dark brown hair and stupid striped sweater. Everything came rushing back like a wave in the middle of the vast ocean. Nothing could have prepared Mello to see that boy again. And when Matt starts crossing the floor to get to Mello? His heart pounded harder; because he knew that the last thing he had said or done to matt was that quiet kiss and quiet "I love you" that mello mumbled under his breath before storming away.
What felt like 3 years, was really 30 seconds for Matt to get to Mello, his soft eyes, now widened from the alcohol that he had been drinking. "Mello? Is that you?" Matt suddenly yelled over the music. Bringing Mello back to his senses. "Y-yeah, holy shit matt I haven't seen you since I was 14." He admitted, honestly sounding a little upset but surprised at the same time. Matt couldn't hear him over the loud noise of the party and the loud ringing in his ears, so he grabbed his wrist and pulled him outside into the yard before asking Mello to repeat himself. "God, yeah Matt, it's me, I haven't seen you in forever". He admitted, now more quiet and steady with his words. "What happened to your face, man?". He gestured at the scar covering half of Mello's entire face. "Damn, I forgot about that." He quietly admitted before scratching the back of his neck and opening his mouth to speak. "I kind of, may have survived an explosion, not my best work, I must say." He admitted to matt. "the fuck, how did you get yourself into that?" Matt asked, curiously, while rummaging through his pockets to find his cigarettes and a lighter. "Long story, I can't really get into it right now, with all of these people around, I mean". Matt looked rightfully confused, "What? Why, you know you can trust me, if it was an accident with a girl...I'm just gonna tease you, I won't tell anyone". He said, trying to get mello to actually admit the answer, and when Mello opened his mouth to speak, matt thought he'd won. "No, I'm not telling you here matt." The words came out sharper than Mello intended. Matt paused, cigarette halfway to his lips. Because for a moment? the stupid playful grin he'd been wearing all night faltered. "What, are you some kind of mafia guy now?" he laughed. Mello's silence was answer on its own. The grin disappeared completely. "…You're kidding." Mello looked away. The party behind them pulsed with bass and laughter, but it felt miles away. Matt suddenly became very aware of the scar stretching across half of Mello's face, the dark circles beneath his eyes, and the expensive leather jacket that looked stolen rather than bought. "Oh my God," Matt muttered. "You weren't kidding." "Can we not talk about this here?" "No." Mello groaned and dragged a hand down his face. "Matt—" "No, because you vanish for four years, show up looking like you've been fighting wars, tell me you survived an explosion, and then expect me to just move on?" "It wasn't exactly planned." "Neither was you kissing me and disappearing."
The words hit like a truck. Both of them froze. For a second, neither of them dared to speak. Matt stared at the grass. Mello stared at him. The memory slammed into both of them at once, the warm but somehow cool summer air, the orphanage gates, Matt grabbing his sleeve, that stupid desperate look on Matt's face, then the kiss. "You remember that?" Mello asked quietly. Matt let out a choked laugh. "Remember it? Mello, I thought about it for years." The admission hung between them. Mello suddenly wished he was anywhere else—in a gunfight, in another explosion, back at Wammy's, anywhere but here. "I was fourteen," Mello muttered. "You told me you loved me." His stomach dropped. Matt's voice wasn't angry. That somehow made it worse. "You left before I could even answer." Mello looked down at his boots. For one of the smartest people in the world, he couldn't think of a single thing to say. Finally, Matt spoke again. "You know," he said softly, "for a while I thought maybe I imagined it." Mello's eyes snapped back up. "What?" "Yeah." Matt laughed coldly, even for the heat around them. "Because who does that? Who kisses someone, says they love them, and disappears for four years?" Guilt twisted in Mello's chest. "I didn't have a choice." Matt studied him for a long moment. And for the first time since they'd reunited, he noticed something beyond the scar: fear. Not fear of Matt. Fear for finally accepting who he was. "…What happened to you?" Matt asked quietly. Mello swallowed. The honest answer was too much. Everything about his life was too much. But looking into Matt's eyes after four years, lying felt impossible. So, for the first time all night, Mello told the truth. "Things got bad after I left." Mello finally admitted, "I tried so fucking hard to forget that stupid 14-year-old me was in love with my best friend. I was supposed to like girl's, matt I was horrified of ever admitting that I was in love with you." Mellos admission hung in the air as matt processed it.
Matt didn't answer immediately. The weight of what Mello had said was still settling in. Not because he didn't feel the exact same way, no. But because he had always loved mello. He never actually stopped looking for him, he loved that boy with all of his heart. And when he left wammys it destroyed matt. "Mello, i was in love with you too." Matt finally choked out, it took everything for matt to have the courage to say that. "i dont think i ever stopped loving you, mello. i would've searched forever to find you because no matter how many girls i dated, it never felt like being friends with you did. Fuck, Mello im still in love with you after all of this time. I tried so hard to forget about loving you bec-" and just like that, he was cut off by nothing other than a kiss from mello, not like the last one, it was soft and wasnt rushed, he didnt need to rush now, he wasn't leaving. Not this time, at least. Mello pulled away before matt did "Im sorry" he immediately said after pulling away, "I should've asked im sorry-" 'Mello, its fine, calm down. im not going to like kill you or something". Matt softly re-assured him. Even if he was was drunk, he was still aware of the things he was saying, if anything, the alcohol made him more honest. "Matt, i just need to get away from this party, would you be down to go on a drive with me? Just to clear our heads?" Mello asked, obviously overwhelmed by the loud people and music. "Yeah sure, let's just go now". Matt offered, since Mello came with his friend, he didn't have his motorcycle. So, he decided to drive matts car since matt couldn't drive anyway. The cool air on Mellos face when they started driving felt like drinking water after being thirsty for days. So that night, they exchanged phone numbers while mello drove matt home. For the first time in 4 years, Matt slept perfectly with mello by his side. Though, matt wasn't very happy when Mello woke him up at 4 in the morning saying he had gotten a call from one of the people he worked with, who needed help on some sort of mission. So, they hugged at matts door before Mello left the small apartment that smelt like cigarettes and old take out.
That morning matt woke up with a throbbing headache and a text from Mello that read, "Figured you would be hungover. I left Advil on the nightstand and a root beer since you loved them when we were younger. I'll be over to your apartment around 8 tonight with food." Matt smiled when he read the last sentence. A smile that made him look like a middle school girl with a crush. Even if all he remembered from the night before was Mello kissing him after they argued. Matts day consisted of sitting on his couch with his DS in hand playing some kind of Pokémon game and waiting for 8 to roll around, and when it did and mello showed up with matts favorite take out? he smiled so wide he thought his face would be stuck that way. They sat on matts-stained red couch and watched the news when the local station began talking about some new murderous killer who went by the name 'kira'. It spiked Mellos attention quickly. He texted his men to make sure they knew about kira too. Because apparently kira had almost 'supernatural' powers. He could kill with just a name of a person. The investigation started quickly after.
As late summer bloomed into Autumn, the Kira case became more intense, with the lead detective of the investigation, L, was killed by Kira. Mello was getting slammed with work, often being told that he had to interfere with L's successor, Near. Matt often begged mello to let him help. which mello often denied. Tonight was one of those nights. Matt begging mello to let him help the investigation. "Matt, you know i love you, but its too dangerous." Mello stated before kissing matt on the cheek as a small apology, they were enjoying the little time that they had together before Mello got called in again. Matt could never really stay mad when Mello kissed him apologetically like that. "Fine." matt mumbled before settling back in his spot, his head resting lightly on Mellos shoulder. But evidentially, Mellos men became used to matt, and recruited him against mellos better judgment. Their case had become intense lately. With a reporter on the news station claiming to be in Alias with Kira. The mafia team came up with a plan to help stage a gas leak and explosion in the building that Takada worked in. So that Mello could swoop in and kidnap her by acting as a safe driver to get her out of the explosion mess.
Their plan went into action after one of Takada's news broadcasts. The team had helped set a fire and gas leak that would cause an explosion. And in the mess, a bodygaurd of Takadas rushed her onto mellos Motorcyle. He drove her down a highway before handcuffing her and bringing her to a Delivery truck where he had her strip so that he could make sure that she had no devices that could help her escape. Meanwhile, Matt drove in and distracted police enforcement.
Matt got out of his car, lit cigarette lit between his lips, all he was really thinking about was how Mello was worried for nothing, and how he was perfectly fine. Matt had his hands up, and visible, "Look, im involved in this whole kidnapping situation" he spoke, looking at the men all pointing their guns at him. "I know you are going to have alot of questions, so, you wont shoo-". And then all 10 or so men, shot. The first few shots killed matt immediately. And just like that, the pretty boy with brown hair who adored his boyfriend and his newly began adult life, was dead. Meanwhile mello was still in the truck with takada. Though he was now driving while she was wrapped in a towel in the back, Mello turned on the screen in the van, looking down at it while driving, when suddenly matts beutiful red car that he adored, popped on the screen; bullet holes in the hood and windshield, and then the reporter spoke before Mello could fully process it, "The suspect that was gunned down earlier has still not been identified." And Mellos heart sunk. His beautiful boy was dead, "Matt...i never thought you'd be killed, im so sorry". where the only words he could choke out, a few tears streamed down his face. his mind raced "I told him it was dangerous, oh matt im so sorry, i love you". Just before His chest began to hurt, the pain unbearable, Mello collapsed against the steering wheel. His final thoughts were filled with the love of his life. That stupid pretty boy. Then, two lovers who just finally accepted their love, had died on the same day.
