How My Mental Health Was Ruined by Joining Random Sonic Fan Communities (and Furry-Related Communities) as a Dinosaur Fan
Not going to lie: as a dinosaur fan (and kaiju fan too), Iām really disturbed and feel like absolute shit. The moment I joined random furry servers out of curiosity, it became difficult to interact with peopleāespecially foreignersābecause Iām from another country. Being Indian while joining these servers has made it very tough to stand up against racism, favoritism, and other toxic behaviors, and this has been going on for a year or two now.
I know I love dinosaurs, prehistoric beasts, kaiju, and all that stuff, but itās been hard to connect with people who are way too fake, manipulative, rude, and two-faced. Honestly, it was my mistake for being too nice to people like that in these communities (Discord servers, for example). Iāve been dealing with this kind of crap ever since I entered the world of online media.
People in these communities have said racist and horrible things about me. I know some of you might say, āJust ignore them and move on,ā but Iāve really struggled with interacting, mingling, and matching the good vibes they claim to haveāvibes that I just donāt feel. I was so stupid for talking about dinosaurs and other cool stuff in those places. They were clearly the wrong communities for me.
Theyād tell me I donāt know anything about Sonic lore or furry lore, and that I talk too much about dinosaurs without understanding their interests. Theyād get bored and complain. I never knew when I was supposed to jump into conversations and when I should stay quiet and also making fun out of me based on my inability of talking with people smoothly, my financial situations, etc (They shown cared only for their favoraite people in those servers).
As the months passed, I started overthinking everythingāmisjudging people, blaming them for not talking to me properly, and believing they hated me behind my back. Because of all that drama, they ended up banning me permanently. Being honest, the moment they kicked me out of those servers, I cried like crazy. I never imagined Iād face this kind of criticism in my life, especially not on Discord.
Itās happened on other platforms too, like Tumblr, Instagram, Deviantart, Twitter etc. Iād reply and comment too much on artistsā and content creatorsā posts, and theyād get annoyed and tell me to stop. Maybe being too nice was a mistake in this generation.
I donāt have enough words to explain what Iām going through right now. Slowly, Iām starting to understand how social media really works. I hope everything gets better. Iām currently in therapy and trying to find ways to heal my broken self. These days, Iām just minding my own business, moving on with life, and focusing on exploring and studying prehistoric life.
