13-year-old me: “Dooku was a bad guy and deserved to die because he was a Sith and he betrayed the Jedi and the Republic!”
24-year-old me: “The Republic was an ineffective, hegemonic, colonial entity that screwed over its members. The Jedi, its alleged guardians, were becoming increasingly corrupted by power and putrefied by complacency. Also, seeing how extraordinarily racist the Empire became “overnight” (it didn’t become so overnight), it’s obvious there was also an attitude of human supremacy over aliens. Dooku, a human, Force-wielding noble, coming from a line of politicians, recognized this, and decided to sacrifice his comfort in the Jedi Temple to go out and do something about it. He used his good fortune as a powerful Force user, highest-class sword master and Count de Serenno to help others! And while he ended up being manipulated by Sidious, he did help many systems exercise the right to self-determination. And seeing as the Republic easily turned fascist, he was right about it being an irredeemable mess to begin with, thus making his effort to pull systems out of it before shit hit the Nazi fan actually a morally good thing.”
Dooku, like Revan in the old Expanded Universe, was an antihero tragically turned villain by circumstance, but like Revan, he was the only one who acted on what a damn mess the “democratic” and “progressive” Republic had become.
For most of his life, Dooku did nothing wrong.

Then Rey offered him another and that bitch decided he would rather be a tyrant.
