fancy men with their fancy makeup
It’s the same thing, still the same looks, still the same whispering. I’m just more confident now than I was then, so I don’t care.
Manny Gutierrez
Inside, Lunar Beauty founder Manny Gutierrez shares the story of Lunar Beauty, how drag culture influenced his line, and the state of diversity in beauty.
This article talks about the history of drag in makeup. I think that most of the makeup “trends” and styles have been developed and shaped after the drag community. They are not afraid to be bold and use color, which can make makeup so fun and unique. It also talks about the stigmas around men in the beauty/makeup industry. Gutierrez states that when he worked at Sephora and would go on his lunch breaks that people would look at him very strangely. While he worked there a couple years ago, I think that this still holds true today and many people would still find it very odd, which they should not. Everyone should be able to express themselves however they want to.
just so yall remember...

Christopher de Lapuente, CEO of @sephora
Fabrizio Freda, CEO of @esteelauder
Tiim Warner, CEO of @urbandecay
David Greenberg, President of @maybelline US
remember that these are the men in charge of the makeup companies. these are the men profiting off women’s insecurities and society’s lie that a woman’s worth is based on her ability to look flawless every second of every day.
and as long as mainstream feminists continue to uphold makeup as a “fun”, “harmless”, “empowering” form of self-expression, these are the men who will be getting richer and richer.
It is very interesting to me that these “men in makeup” are all CEOs of some of the largest makeup brands in the world. What do they possibly know about makeup? Have they ever put on makeup, or tried it out? Do they understand how they are profiting on other’s insecurities? While this post is somewhat different from the others, I thought that this was an interesting point to show. Being a man in makeup can mean more than just wearing the makeup. These men in makeup makeup a big part of the companies and a lot of their key decisions.
galaxies away
David Bowie was one person of the past that really went against gender norms and stereotypes. Whether it was his outfits or makeup he was not afraid to be himself and express himself.

Men in Makeup
I’ve been extremely irritated seeing how many people are shaming and blatantly hating on men for wearing make-up. This is something that is just starting to become familiarized in the world and starting to become accepted, yet here we are taking 20 steps back. As a make-up fanatic myself, I never realized it was such a big thing, because I would just follow people who were good at makeup. This includes men! I will include pictures of my favorites, MannyMUA, Patrick Starrr, Jeffree Star, Arieh Simon, Bretman Rock, James Charles, and GlamboyJay. To me it was never a problem that they were men, because to me they were just TALENTED individuals. I have now come to see how much scrutiny they are put under, and how brave they are to be following their passion. These people follow their hearts and do what they love, without caring about the reactions they will get from others. Jeffree Star has his own line of make-up that is very successful, and many of the other people I listed have made collaborations with make-up brands. They are succeeding and it does not matter what gender they are, because they are talented and their talent is being recognized. One of my favorite people in the world, MannyMUA, always says, “I believe that men deserve just as much cosmetic recognition.” And I love that, because it is so true. There are so many men working to normalize wearing make-up, even though it shouldn’t be something that they have to normalize. Men wearing make-up should not be a problem, seeing as we are all humans and we are all just trying to express ourselves. Many make-up companies are run by men and have been created by men and have men working for them, like the brand Too Faced. Men have been in make-up for years, yet now we are finding a problem with it. Everybody has the freedom to express theirselves the way that they want to, and to shame somebody for doing what they love is disgusting. I am so proud of the men I listed and all the other men out there who are just doing them. Keep doing you, because you guys are going to change the world one day. You guys are changing the world right now. This was brought to my attention, because my child Magnus Bane was being shamed for wearing make-up. He is a fictional character that is being shamed for wearing make-up. A fictional character. Hundreds of people are posting hateful words towards him, because he is expressing himself. As much as I love Magnus, we need to realize that this fight is more than just him. He is a fictional character being shamed for wearing make-up, now can you imagine the shame and hateful words that REAL men who wear make-up get everyday? That is what we need to be working to end. It is not okay to tell somebody what they can and can’t do, especially when it’s something you love. We as a society need to start looking past our judgements and to start to spread more love. Where did the humanity in people go? What happened to loving and supporting people? We can change this and we can fight along side these badass men, who are working to create a more open-minded society.

Be the change.
Makeup has evolved through the years ... They [men] have found a way to use makeup very simply and organically, to create everyday looks for themselves without any stigmas behind it.
Scott Barnes
From ancient Egyptians to modern beauty gurus, the history of makeup for men is absolutely fascinating.
This article discusses the impact that makeup has had for men. In the past, 4000 BCE - 18th century, men have consistently worn makeup. Then, the queen of Britain at the time declared makeup to be vulgar and it was no longer popular. The church deemed it as “The Devil’s work”. Then by the 20th century it was seen as a girls-only pursuit. Around the time of 2017 this stigma has began to change. While more and more men are starting and continuing to wear makeup, the topic is still somewhat taboo and makes more conservative people, who may be uncomfortable with their own masculinity, feel weirded out by men wearing makeup.
On Facebook, he claimed that his new bosses aimed to "discriminate" against him.
A man is facing a lot of discrepancy for his makeup in the workplace. Many of his female counterparts wear a lot more makeup than he does. Yet, he is told that he is wearing too much. He has worked at his job for 8/9 months without any problems with his makeup. However, new management has caused this to change. While many companies are becoming more and more lenient, this is an example of how people are still being discriminated against every day.
