❝ Meng Po is so cute. ❞
kyukyukitty:
“Oh, like bones? I love bones, but I’m not supposed to eat them ‘cause they’ll get stuck in my throat.”
”Not quite, they aren’t physical things - that is to say that you can’t usually see them. And most people can’t eat souls, though I guess most can’t eat bones. Although bones would probably have health benefits.”
kyukyukitty:
“Souls…” Thinking, quietly, Kyu rolled his lips. “What’re souls?”
“They’re what’s left when humans and some creatures lose their bodies, after death.”
kyukyukitty:
“Whoa. That sounds scary – but like, if they’re already dead…” He hesitated, thinking with a blank look before he jolted back to life. “Ugh! How do you handle the smell?”
“No! I could never…well, maybe I could. I don’t know, I don’t think my sunbae would let me, but you know what? I think he has.”
“You adapt to it eventually and it isn’t so scary.” She chuckled and shook her head, “I don’t deal with bodies or well I didn’t. Souls it’s all about souls.”
“I think they’re right to stop you, killing people leaves a mark on your soul that can’t be erased. He probably has his own reasons.”
kyukyukitty:
“Okay, my turn, my turn! This is a real question, no more laughing.”
“Have you…ever…killed a man?”
“Okay, I’ll try not to.”
“Well, no not technically. I suppose plenty would say I’ve sent them off to death but they’re already dead so that’s not quite right. Have you?”

Ares, lip busted open and bruises already beginning to spider across his cheekbone and jaw, felt like new. Contentment came in different forms for everyone, but perhaps none so odd as the satisfaction Ares got from the spoils of war. No, maybe one-to-one combat wasn’t quite the destruction that Ares craved, but it was close enough for now.
He’d let the “other guy” in the ring live.
It wasn’t out of any sort of mercy. Ares, frankly, didn’t know the meaning of the word. But the blood-boiling former god felt exhilarated by the adrenaline thumping from the fight, and he wanted to fight the bastard who gave him a run for his proverbial money again.
The ex-god dabbed his lip to stop the bleeding, then glanced over at the other next to him, smiling, cheeks flushed from excitement. “Not sure if your money was on me or not, but it should have been.”
Meng found the fights interesting, in a twisted sort of way. The twisted, loose morals seemed to haunt her fellow immortals and the other non-humans throughout the world and it was entertaining. Which she supposed spoke about her personality as well, but she found that betting on the fights made it seem less personal.
And then there were times like this when the victor seemed so proud, so happy and in general as if he felt no pain in spite of his injuries.
“Indeed it was,” she responded, her eyes on the loser across the ring. He was obviously strong in his own right which just made this man even more of a person to keep an eye on. After all, a few bets that were guaranteed wins could be very fun.
“Congratulations on your wonderful win, Mr...?” The congratulations were well deserved, but it was also as good of a way as ever to get his name.
You never apologized to me for hurting me, but I apologized to you 12 times for being angry about it.

Meng Po 孟婆; is the Lady of Forgetfulness in Chinese mythology. It is her task to ensure that souls who are ready to be reincarnated do not remember their previous life or their time in hell. She brews the Bittersweet Broth of Oblivion from herbs and pond water. She awaits the souls of the dead at the Ninth Hell, where she serves her Five Flavored Tea of Forgetfulness. One sip of it, and you forget all that you once were; all that remains is karma. This way, your next life is a clean slate.
