see i believe that as a general rule people should be respectful of one another and considerate of each other's needs and that no one is exempt from this rule, but if there is ever a time where it's reasonable for someone to be entitled, it's in a time loop. if time itself is distorting for your sake, you can probably assume you're a protagonist of some sort and that your needs carry some sort of cosmic significance. that said being respectful is often a condition for escaping time loops. there are some extra pros and cons to weigh in such a situation is what i'm getting at

So this is like my second ask, and it's kind of cheating because it's a riff on one of your excellent questions. But, here goes:

I have noticed you like Pathologic quite a lot. How did you discover it? Who is your fav character, and which is your fav game? Which of the games (classic vs. remakes) do you recommend for newbies and, if I were said newbie, would you recommend playing all of them at some point?

i first discovered pathologic about a decade ago when i was trawling a steam halloween sale and decided to pick it up since it was cheap enough that it would hardly be a loss if it turned out i didn't like it. we've come a long way, eh?

might be kind of a cop out to pick both but my favorite characters are the stamatin twins. i love twin characters in general and these two are a perfect model of exactly what i love about them. they're so different but they have so much in common and they're dedicated first and foremost to each other. i also find their role as architects of miracles fascinating, peter especially, the genius who lost his spark (or at least feels as though he has; dark days are finite, but that's a personal take and not relevant to the story), the creator whose greatest miracle he'll never be able to experience for himself because it only works for children. and that set against andrey's more sanguine temperament? the game isn't even subtle about the way the two are a big bipolar mood. they have some great moments in 3 that i won't spoil but i love them. i love them.

also he might not be my number one fav but shoutout to bachelor dankovsky for his youthful arrogance and for how deeply he cares even as everyone in the town is constantly getting on his nerves. i will break death's own spine

as for where to start, pathologic classic is extremely janky by modern standards so as dear as it is to me it's hard to recommend it. pathologic 2 and 3 are both much better on that front, and since they're retellings more than sequels, you can start with either without missing out on any major lore or context. i do tend to prefer 2 as an introduction to the setting, and it has a lot of sliders for adjusting difficulty, so it's more friendly to newbies in that way. both games offer very different experiences with how things play out, how you influence them, your goals, etc. if you like one i'd say it would be worth your while to play both.

whether or not i'd recommend ever playing classic would depend a lot on a person's patience with cryptic conversations and lengthy walks but hey it's often on sale cheap enough that there's not much to lose

Currently Watching: justified i guess? it's not really my thing but the group i watch shows with loves it so i'm waiting out 😅 it's not a slog; there are some interesting characters, but again, not my thing.

Current Obsession: kinda between obsessions but i'm gonna say language learning because it's something i come back to daily. honorable mention to harry gefangen in der zeit for being the most fun tool i've yet found for studying german. guy is trapped in a time loop and you have to watch silly videos and do grammar exercises to help him escape.

Currently Reading: model home by rivers solomon - it's been fascinating so far; it's about a haunted house but it's more litfic than horror. it's more a metaphor about identity and being rejected by communities. EDIT: ok i finished it and it is horror. it is horror. it creeps in at the edges until it isn't at the edges anymore

Currently Working On: i'm about halfway through the final arc of my novel :3

Last Google Search: [pharmacy] hours, had to call them to learn that my doctor's office hasn't sent in the prescription refill i requested over a week ago :)
