Not to mention Thor literally did the same thing but with worse consequences for Asgard. He invaded Jotunheim. But unlike earth Jotunheim is a formidable power compared to Asgard and thus Thor’s actions triggered a conflict that could have been a threat to Asgardian lives. But Thor sure didn’t get dragged back in chains.

The real difference is that Asgard considers Earth to be one of their territories so by invading it Loki was striking against Odin. Furthermore, Loki is no longer a useful tool to Odin and his continued presence is an embarrassment and an inconvenience. Especially if he overcomes his shame about his heritage and starts telling everyone the truth about how Odin lied. Since goading him into suicide didn’t work, Odin’s best option is to discredit him and lock him up somewhere where no one will have contact with him (unless of course Odin has a use for him - ie. Loki’s fear of being just another stolen relic locked away with Odin’s other tools has indeed come true).

I remember Owen asking me what I loved about playing Loki. Like, never mind what was great about the character, what other people could see.

One thing that was missing from the loki show (among others) was Loki's rage. Where was the desire for revenge, the desire to be free, the desire to be himself and watch as those that tried and failed to subjugate him burn?

Where was his rebelliousness, his defiance, his "fuck you" to the rules and their enforcers?

Where was his desire to wreak havoc and chaos just because they dared to chain him?

Where was his malicious compliance? Where was following the letter of the law, but not the spirit?

Where was the manipulation? The lies so sweet they sound like the truth? The wordsmith so talented that he could turn anything to his advantage?

Where was the resourcefulness? The determination to escape? The dagger in the dark?

Instead we got a golden retriever as the main character.

His desire to be free - yes! Our 2012 Loki would steal all infinity stones from TVA and as soon as he steps his feet outside of TVA he would use them and ditch the TVA the first chance he got.
