Various elements of my Halloween look for this year, including the new tail.

Right now I am incredibly frustrated with UPS. I ordered a fin fun tail(as you do) and I ordered it, in theory, in plenty of time to receive it before I actually need it even with it being made-after-order(It is a calypso elite style and it is going to be so freaking pretty). Fin fun shipped it out to me on I think the 19th via ups, and it was originally scheduled to arrive on the 22nd. Fin Fun ships from their location in Idaho. I am on the far side of the continent, more or less, in California. My package made it to Utah pretty quickly and then just…hung out there, I guess? Until the 22nd was well and truly over. When I went to bed on the 22nd at about 11pm, UPS was still claiming my package was to be delivered by 7pm that evening despite still apparently being in Utah and also the time being well beyond 7.

Next morning by the time I got up, my delivery date had been updated to today, the 28th, and my package had somehow teleported from Utah to Georgia. Where it hung out all weekend and then continued to hang out until almost 9 last night, when the delivery date was moved to tomorrow, the 29th and any mention of last scanned location was removed from the tracking, replaced with the word ‘delay’.

In the meantime, an unrelated package was shipped to me on the 22nd from NEW DELHI, INDIA via Fedex, and that arrived earlier today.

So yeah I’m not mad at Fin Fun at all and eventually I hope to enjoy my new tail. But I am very frustrated with UPS.

Update: Spent all day waiting and waiting for tail, only for tracking to change from out for delivery to delivery attempted at like, 1:30 as i was sitting near my unapproached front door. The website tracking said that they would take my package to the local access location, which is near the cvs down the road where I could come pick it up the next day. The problems with this are as follows: I had no notice of attempted delivery at my door because no delivery attempt had been made. The cvs is too far to walk to easily along a busy road with only partial sidewalk presence, and I do not drive. There is a bus route that stops along that road, but I would have to cross at a busy 4 lane intersection once each way to take the bus, and people in this neighborhood and the surrounding area are a bit lead-footed. I do not feel it is reasonable to spend $15 each for two ubers to get me to and then from the access point. My roommates work on Fridays and then are out quite late into the night on most Friday nights visiting family so I could not get a ride from one of them either. So I went to the contact us link and I had UPS call me, and the lady on the phone was very nice and helpful. She got in touch with the local UPS facility and had them try and get the driver with my package to turn around and come bgack and actually deliver my box. And just as I was telling my roommate that I didn’t think she had succeeded in her efforts, the doorbell rang. UPS man had arrived with my box, at about 5:30 pm, and I have a lovely tail in my lap now and it is so FUCKING pretty you guys I’m so relieved.

there are many young merfolk out there, so i felt the desire to create a badass elder for mermay :) she’s as much derived from as she is dedicated to the vuvalini of MMFR– i also sincerely hope she brings joy to my mutuals older than me who always delight and inspire me, and to all older women in fandom, really, who i continuously thought of while working on her

i hope it’s obvious but just in case: she’s beluga / inuit. and yes, a name and backstory eventually developed! haha

Some years ago, I had the prettiest autumn colored mermaid wall hanging figurine, and I find myself missing her, but I cannot for the life of me find a duplicate of her. She was fair of skin tone, with hair and tail all warm brown, orange and copper tones, and had streams of goldfish friends sculpted around her. If this sounds familiar to anyone and you know where i can find something like it, please let me know so I can have a look and see if it’s her. I know this is a long shot.

Turns out she’s based on a painting by Sheila Wolk, called Metamorphosis. The more you know.

Several versions of her in sculpted form apparently exist, including some that are free standing. But I had a wall hanging one in my twenties, and that version  is…harder to find for affordable, so I may pick up the easel plaque version shown above.

Got new makeup today, spent the evening playing with it and teasing out possible future mermaid looks.

I finally have a concealer and foundation that don’t drive me up the wall in irritation, so I might work on wearing makeup more often now.

This one is a little messy in places but it’s late so eh.

I maaaay have gone a wee bit tail mad and picked up this:

for myself and this

for a friend as well as new monofins for us both. The tails should arrive tomorrow, the monofins are delayed. That’s my fault. It’s gonna be okay.

May also have designed male and female ribbon seal themed tails for later purchase. Actually those almost certainly need a bit more polish probably before they get submitted for printing. Still, very excited.
