I read Spider-Woman Gang War Vol.1 (Spoilers)
(One of my favorite Super-Hero)
I had this comic for 6 months in my closet, but i picked up to read it this week and... honestly?! I thought the history was going to be all over the place, given that Spider-Woman's lore, at times, felt a little drag by whatever the current writer felt like doing to her. But in spite of my low expectations, i was suprised by a concise story, that not only understand and inserts itself in the absurd situations that Jessica Drew (Spider-Woman) been through, but also creates something new in this new comic.
The story begins when she was "brought back to life", but notices that her son haven't! She spends all her time and energy trying to, not only, to find her son, but also prove to people that he existed. Her best friend Capitain Marvel, and close friend, Madame Web, who in this story is named Julia, are her closest, and most trustworthy allies. At times, it felt like the relationship between her and captain marvel had little time to develop, and honestly, it makes sense, after all they are both heroes that have to, literally, save the world every other day.
Without spoiling the entire story, she finds her son, but he is not who she thought he was, and, as a way to cope, the "story" pairs her with a forgotten hero, Spider-boy.
And, obviously, he represents the son she deserves, but doesn't have. As i was reading, i was expecting their duo not to be as developed as the rest of her relationships, but for the time that their had (the last 10 pages) it was really well put together! Again, the same problem i had with Agent Carter, Spider-Woman didn't have enough time to process or feel the burden of the situations that she was going through. Neither i, was a reader, was able to immerse myself in her character because the story was too eager to get to the next thing! She went through traumatic experiences, and relived some of then in this volume, but for some reason, the writers didn't let her have a few more seconds to feel, she only had time to act. Another thing that kept throwing me of the story, was the panels: At times she had a strong body, the others she had skinny arms but strong legs, on the next she had skinny legs... I don't know why, but i was too much in my face to ignore this "detail".
Other than that, it was an amazing read, especially for the first volume of this story. I must stop this review now, after all, I have other volumes of this story waiting for me to read them!
I am shocked at how many people don't have an actively hostile relationship with advertising
I am skipping your ads as fast as I can. I'm skipping past your sponsor read. I'm muting the tv. I'm muting the tab. If they get too annoying I will simply stop trying to watch.
If advertisers can use every manipulative trick in the book to get me to buy their product, I am fully within my rights to do everything I can on my end to make their job impossible
I saw Agent Carter
Finally a Marvel show that, despite of the absurd situations that are only possible in a Marvel Tv Show, takes it self seriously! It takes place in a new york after the second world war and steve rogers "passing". Peggy Carte is now working for the SSR, Strategic Scientific Reserve, and is trying to fit in her new workplace, while her coworkers treat her like a secretary, not a agent. As the the plot develops, we find out in the second episode the main villain's name: Leviathan. I'm a little traumatized by that name, after all i was a Supernatural fan and, when leviathans were introduced, i lost complete interest on the show. (it was too much, and had nothing to do with the winchester family) Anyway, after i learned that name, i held my breath and trusted that agent carter wouldn't betray my trust... And i was right! The stakes were high, the danger made sense, and Peggy felt the burden of her actions, wheter they were morally good or not. My only complaint is that, as a viewer, i couldn't feel the emotions properly. At times it felt like the plot was eager to show me what's next, and not what was happening right in front of me. I knew that there was danger, but i couldn't feel it as much i would have like'd to feel it. Its a shame that the show got cancelled, and Agent Carter last appearance was... well... ... (i don't want to talk about it) Other than that, we should trust that somethig is good, not because it had a big investment, but because the team really cared about the project!
