Happy 4th of July! I’m celebrating by drawing various mermercs (shhhh saltwater crocodiles and loch Ness monsters count as mermaids)
What are each of them supposed to be?
In the order the pictures are in they are:
Sniper: saltwater crocodile… Because why not. It fits. Instead of sunglasses he has second eyelids.
Spy: betta fish/Japanese fighting fish. I know everyone goes for tentaspy, and an octopus fits him, but also bettas are some feisty flashy motherfuckers and I just really think it fits. Also he wraps his upper half with seaweed and kelp to hide.
Scout: the fastest fish in the ocean, the sailfish. (Though this is somewhat debated, some people claim it’s the black marlin, but in either case the speed difference isn’t TOO great, they’re very close) But his fins are a bit off for a sailfish and rather more frilly than they technically should be. (Bcz his dad is a betta)
Pyro: some ambiguous type of jellyfish (fin fact: jellyfish are not even a species of fish, they’re their own species entirely)
Engie: catfish, a flathead catfish to be specific. My own personal favorite fish lol!
Medic: a brook lamprey. A friend told me they’re found in Germany/Austria. IDK if that’s exactly true but in any case a bloodsucking eel looking thing fits Medic rather well, since I was going to put him as a type of eel before it was suggested. Glasses are probably stolen from someone or cobbled together out of binoculars.
Soldier: the most American fish I can think of, a largemouth bass. He’s got some raggedy fins and such because he’s a mess. The bucket used to be somebody’s bait bucket.
Heavy: an orca. Commonly called a killer whale, for those not into fish lol. Orcas are one of the smallest species of whale from what I recall. I very nearly made him a Greenland shark honestly but orca seemed to fit better
Demo: he’s a plesiosaur/Loch Ness monster because… I got annoyed at trying to figure out what he should be and said fuck it, lmao
Crocodiles in general aren’t exactly graceful on land but they can manage well enough
There’s a lot of myths about saltwater crocodile running speeds but from what I can narrow down 17 kph/11 mph is the most accurate average. Like all animals some are much faster but in GENERAL, yanno
Bored so I drew some mermercs
They ~somewhat~ match up to the sizes of the species they’re based off of?? Heavy is bigger than anyone else and Medic is v smol compared to the others, tho he’s rather long
Medic’s feeding habits lead to a lot of weird moments (lamprey are parasitic fish, saying “blood” maybe simplifies it a bit, but it is SCOUT he’s talking to). Also I’m terrible at keeping consistent size differences, but yes, Medic is very SMALL
Would anyone be interested in an ask blog for the mermercs because,,, I’m sorely tempted
This is a shitpost but Miss Pauling is a siren in the mermercs universe
