Tips for Executive Dysfunction: Getting Ready
(Just some ideas and stuff that works for me.)
the colors may be a bit of an eyesore but i like them so...
Getting out of bed: the hardest of tasks /hj
Phone on other side of room - Not as much reason to stay in bed if all there is to do is stare at the ceiling. Works better when you're very prone to boredom and can't normally sleep excessively.
Alarm on other side of room - Set an alarm and sit it out of reach before you go to bed for extra encouragement to get up. Works even better if you have housemates and your alarm is something you don't want them to hear. i play sburban jungle
Water?? - Keep a bottle of water by your bed. Nothing else. Just water. Bored? Too bad, all there is to do is drink water. Speedrun desperately needing to pee, and get yourself out of bed and to the bathroom ASAP. Congrats, you got up. (Do NOT do this if you're in a bad enough state of executive dysfunction that you'd consider relieving yourself in the now-empty bottle rather than getting up and going to the bathroom.)
Cold weather, warm clothes - If it's cold in the morning, try sleeping while wearing a coat and warm pants, rather than wearing lightweight pajamas and depending on blankets alone for warmth. Now you can get out of bed without leaving all the warmth behind.
Changing: why is it so cold (i may be anemic)
Assemble outfits the evening before - Use less of your limited mental energy in the morning.
Warm clothes pt. 2 electric boogaloo - Put outfit for next day in your bed the previous night. Consider shoving the clean socks and underwear in the other clothes so they don't get lost in your bed while you're sleeping. Now you have warm clothes to change into. You can even change before you get out of bed for maximum warmth.
Bathroom multitasking - If you didn't change in your bed and need to sit on the toilet, bring your clothes in the bathroom and change there. No point in taking your pants off twice if you only need to do so once.
Pill cases - Organize your vitamins and/or medications into pill cases that are labeled for every day of the week. (Do NOT do this if you think there is a risk of intentionally taking too much. Same goes for if the house has extremely high humidity and mildew issues.) Place the pill cases beside a bottle of water for easy taking. They live there now. Sit your next dose on top of the pill container so it's easier to remember to take it later. Lay pill cases in a line by day and put the current pill case at the end of the line once you've taken out the pills for the day. Set a calendar alert to refill the pill cases at the end of the week.
Peer pressure (positive) - Need a quick kick into action and find out easier to do stuff when asked/told? Message a supportive groupchat to ask them to tell you to do a specific task ("someone please bully me into taking a shower" is something i commonly use). Similarly, write a checklist everyone in the house can see, and/or set public reminders for yourself so you have more ways to hold yourself accountable (i'm a fan of discord's yagpdb and its /remindme command).
