anyway myyyy ideal opener to s10 would be a whodunnit being investigated by athena in her new detective role!!!! there is so much potential for this. please sit with me for a moment and imagine:

a murder that occurs in the midst of a big emergency while the 118 is all separated and working in smaller groups. maybe they assume the victim is just a casualty that almost passes undetected… we’re getting clips of what happened during the emergency as it’s retold while athena is interviewing everyone and collecting alibis. messy interpersonal drama happening in the 118 pairs that they don’t want to admit to. perhaps may and ravi having a moment that distracts them just a liiiiiittle longer than it should have on the job. maybe eddie locking down and refusing to elaborate on his alibi and seeming really guilty. just insisting he was with hen and refusing to give any additional detail because he was actually confiding in her…

meanwhile the killer is taking advantage of them all being distracted to sneak around and almost get away with it. and i think it would be really funny if it was someone the 118 is vaguely familiar with so they were aware of how they are prior and orchestrated the situation accordingly

we can talk about eddies plots feeling stagnant and until we all run out of words but like. we all know why. almost all of his plots would have a satisfying resolution if they ended in one thing. and its the same one thing. and all of his plots circle it but never get quite close enough to touch it and then we start all over again

has anyone yet made a gifset parallel between “abigail put her faith in god and what did it get her? tetanus! lockjaw!” and eddie putting his faith in god and what did it get him? stabbed!

they could’ve cut the father who got shot and instead had Eddie get shot and that would’ve made far more sense. like sorry but one-off father getting more attention paid to his wound than one of the main characters is just. insane. Hen having to reach into Eddie’s chest to keep his heart pumping manually is far more meaningful than her doing that to random character #19292 especially because Eddie was Hen’s partner when she had to tap out because of her illness. it would’ve also made a helluva lot more sense than Eddie getting randomly stabbed for no reason and spending the rest of the episode in the elevator. then Buck could’ve run out after saving Athena and found Hen all bloody and watched Eddie get wheeled into the ICU and would then have to deal with a lot of guilt because he wasn’t there to save Eddie in 9x18 the way Eddie was there to save Buck in 9x13.

because like yeah i guess they needed Eddie out of the way, but that still leaves the question of what on earth Eddie would’ve contributed to the plot if he wasn’t trapped in the elevator. Hen and Chimney had that father covered. Buck and Harry got to Athena on their own (i thought that maybe Buck would find a way into the elevator and discover Eddie bleeding out, which would make him have to choose between helping Harry protect Athena and saving Eddie’s life). Ravi and May did well together. but i mean hell we had the shooter focus on Eddie in a way that would’ve allowed him to shoot Eddie as Eddie tried to stop him from entering the ICU, but as it stands his reason for stabbing Eddie (and then not even bothering to stick around to make sure Eddie really is dead) is nonexistent. and besides, Eddie getting shot while trying to protect his family would’ve been great post-s8 when he wasn’t there to protect Bobby.

Eddie was there for every other character this season. it’d have been really great if we got to see them be here for him. we know they are and would be, but come on. let’s see it.
