Jimmy and Emily in Paris!
Oh darling If this heart was a card would you deal it? If this life was a pulse would you feel it? If this love was a wound would you heal it? (Or just make it better)
-Polymorphing, Chairlift
When there was a wilderness, we wandered wild and free Guilt, she is the governess that guides me back to grief What if we were dumb enough to spend eternity Gathering the garbage washed up on the beach?
-The Governess, Metric
I want them to hate me So you can love me on the sly
- On the Sly, Metric
One of my favorite songs off of the ‘Grow Up and Blow Away’ Album
Metric ‘Hidden Gems’ - The People
Fun fact: Before Metric became known as Metric, the group called themselves ‘MainStream’.
Recorded in 1998, before Joshua Winstead and Joules Scott Key joined, MainStream’s “MainStream EP” was the first collection of songs released by Emily and Jimmy.
The People is one of the five songs that were on the album. It has a rhythmic light beat and in this song you can see where the influence for Metric’s ‘Grow Up and Blow Away’ album came from.
Emily Haines : Poster of a Woman
From: Nuvo Magazine
Emily Haines, the frontwoman of the band Metric and her own personal project, Emily Haines and the Soft Skeleton, opens up about her songwriting process, her recent album Choir of the Mind, and her thoughts on stardom and fame in this article.
Some of her quotes that stood out to me:
“You have to go for the thing you can’t do, always looking for where you are weak.”
“If you can embrace weakness, and your flaws, and go toward what seems like uninhabitable pain … it’s a source of strength. And growth.”
“The paradigm you inevitably walk into as a musician is, ‘I’m going to do this, and you are going to applaud.’ You can see it with children at recitals performing for Mom and Dad: the training becomes doing it for the applause.”
If I refuse to engage in that, then my work is my own. No question, it’s challenging: the acclaim, whether it’s pure sugar or sour, hugely inflated congratulatory quotes—that shit will kill you.”
Doo-doo-doo we're on to you Tearing her down, talking her down under your breath Making a mess, see she is happy you want to break it,
Wet Blanket, Metric
One of my favorite pictures of the band.
Sunday fun day.

Metric ‘Hidden Gems’ - The Gates
Another song off of the B-Side of ‘Fantasies’, “The Gates” is a slow and downbeat song that highlights Emily’s vocals and Jimmy’s acoustic guitar.
Reminds me of their older songs from “Grow Up and Blow Away”

Get me out of this state I'm in When I spiral down, it's a vile spin Got something I can't hide Still alive, it's an overwhelming drive
To prevail and get out of this jail Dust in my eyes and a tear in my sail Back and forth between the desert and the sea Who I was and I will always be
“Are we all designed to be confined Buy ourselves chastity belts and lock them Organize our lives and lose the key Our faces all resemble dying roses From trying to fix it”
-Metric, Patriarch on a Vespa
I remember when we were gambling to win Everybody else said better luck next time I don’t wanna bend, let the bad girls bend I just wanna be your friend Why you giving me a hard time? I remember when we were gambling to win Everybody else said Is it ever gonna be enough?
Metric, “Gold Guns Girls” (via hanisu93)
