Metropolis Visit

Evan got off the bus, stretching before checking his phone, texting Quinn for where they could meet up, practically vibrating with excitement.

He wasn't a huge superhero fan, but a leather jacket from Superboy? There's no way he would turn that down!

Quinn was taking their sweet time replying, but when they finally did, it said,

'HE DROPPED ME IN A BIRD BATH'

And then a smaller, 'We're on the left!' below.

Evan blinked, his head snapping up to look around, before looking to his left

"Here!" He heard a voice say, and turned.

A blonde was making their way through the crowd with a guy in a blue sweatshirt and black jeans, heading straight towards Evan.

The blonde waved, finally meeting up. "Sorry it took so long," They said, giving their friend a look. "This birdbrain dropped me."

"It was an accident-" The other protested.

"Anyways, I'm Quinn! Nice to finally meet you in person," Quinn said with a bright smile, holding one hand out to shake Evan's and using the other to latch onto the guy's arm.

Evan shook Quinn's hand enthusiastically, grinning. "Nice to meet you Quinn! Quinn's friend." He shifted a little, grinning

"Evan, but since we both know another Evan, you can call me Vandal! It's cool to see you too! You're blonder then I expected" He laughed.

Evan was dressed in a simple maroon cardigan, a red scarf and goggles completing the look

"Lovely to meet you, loving the look," Quinn said, smiling, before leaning in to whisper, "Between you and me, though, you seem to be superior over that little fucker."

Vandal snorted at the fondly exasperated tone. "Oh, I bet."

Quinn leaned back, their smile something gentler now. "This is Conner."

"I usually go by Kon, though," Conner interjected, sending a glance to his companion. "He/him. Or anything, really."

"Nice to meet you! You're friends with Superboy, I assume?" Evan smiled, tilting his head a little

Quinn barked a laugh— a sudden, loud giggle— and Kon smacked their shoulder as they covered their mouth.

"I'm so sorry," They said, contrite, as they started moving away. The other two followed. "But maybe you should just see for yourself."

They turned to Kon.

He raised his eyebrow, tensing a little as his hand drifted to his belt. "Oh?"

Despite this, he followed, tense.

Quinn noticed.

"Oh, don't worry, if I was gonna shiv you and leave you to die I would've done it in that alley," They said, pointing at a small, semi-abandoned street between two old buildings. "They wouldn't find you for days because the only person who goes through there is a middle aged man who works at the plumbing facility down the road on thursdays and saturdays. Since it's a Monday, you would be rotted and desiccated before they could figure out it was me."

There was a familiar Gothamite gleam in their eyes, in the way they bared their teeth in a vaguely feral grin, that Evan probably should have been less surprised to see.

Kon looked between them, his face a mix of horror and concern. "'Kay, what the ever-loving fuck, Birdy?"

"I mean," Vandal started, unphased "There are always more alleys. And near the river would always be a good place to dump any body."

Quinn tilted their head, considering. "True, but the dock has security cameras, since teenagers try to break in and swim there. It's easier to burn the body after getting rid of the traceable DNA than to dump it in the harbor."

"Fair enough...don't the supers have like-- you know, super hearing though? What about that?"

Quinn grinned, draping an arm around Kon. "Oh, I don't know. Kon, darling, would you make an exception, just for me?"

Vandal raised an eyebrow. "What?"

Kon sighed. "Fucking Gothamites and their dramatics."

When all Quinn did was grin impishly, he sighed, then smiled at Vandal. "Hi. I'm Superboy." From his jacket, he pulled another, darker leather jacket and holds it out. "I believe you ordered this?"

Vandal blinked, shaking his head before turning to Quinn. "Dude!!" He waved an arm frantically at Kon- no, fucking Superboy- "You said you were gonna get him to stay but you didn't say!!!!-" He looked at Superboy, then back at Quinn, waving both of his arms at Kon like that would explain his point.

Quinn cackled maniacally, practically hanging off Kon as they said, voice laced with glee, "You're right, I didn't. I didn't say anything."

Kon, too, had an amused smirk on his face, which was completely unfair.

Vandal waved his arms, screeching near inhumanly. It would be threatening, if he wasn't 154cm tall and also 13. "DUDE!!!"

He blinked, pouting while he tried to process and figure out how to react to this information

"Alright, back off, Birdy," Kon relented, pulling Quinn "The Menace" Song back. "Sorry for the lack of warning, kiddo," He added sincerely.

"Wait- is it?? Alright to tell some random kid this? I mean like you both barely know me, for all you know I could go yelling this information out to the world!" Evan paused. "Not that I would, though. Please don't kill me." He added.

Quinn smiled, sharp and dangerous. "Oh, don't worry. You dying wouldn't be half of what would happen if you told anyone."

Then they were back to their sunshine-y self, dimpling at the kid. "And besides, Evan trusts you, so I do, too!"

"And I trust Quinn, so therefore, I trust both Evans," Kon added, slinging an arm around the other. They always seemed to be in contact, like they needed reassurance that the other one was there.

Evan took the leather jacket from Kon, handling it carefully while squinting at the two. "Are you both?...."

"Attractive? Dangerous? Clingy?" Quinn tried, tilting their head at a ninety degree angle, which, okay, weird.

"Woefully codependent?" Kon added, elbowing the other. Quinn elbowed him back, stifling laughter.

Evan shrugged "I meant like, dating, but I guess?" He took off his cardigan, showing off his belt- was that a fear gas canister?

Putting on the leather jacket, it was painfully obvious it was too big for him, but he grinned anyways. "Dude, this is sick!"

Quinn bit their knuckles looking at him. "So tiny...so precious," They whispered, almost in awe.

"Don't even think about it," Kon said, seemingly answering an unsaid question without looking away. "And to answer your question, yeah, kind of."

He paused. "Also, is that a GAS CANISTER?"

"Don't worry about it, Evan's briefed me and there's nothing to worry about," The other said absently, patting their partner's cheek.

Evan raised his eyebrow at Quinn, before his attention moved to Kon. "Yeah! I have never hurt anybody in my life ever and I totally do not know how to replicate fear toxin. Anyways, want chips?"

Kon blinked. "Like...microchips?"

Quinn closed their eyes, burying their face in his shoulder to hide their laughter.

Evan stared at Kon, dumbfounded. "No, like chips" Before he just.....pulls a chip bag...from nowhere???? Well, technically he pulled it out from his belt, but there was no way that big of a chip bag could fit.

Quinn finally detached from their other half, taking two hopping steps forward to look, and Evan realized why they walked kind of weirdly as he caught metallic flashes reflecting the sun at him.

Their left leg, exposed in their ripped jeans, was made of metal knee-down. Evan blinked.

"What kinda hammer space-type shit is this?" Quinn demanded, examining the chip bag carefully. Kon took it from them, popping it open and tossing some into his mouth (with a grateful look towards Evan of course, god, could his day get any better-)

"I'm just insanely cool like that!" Evan grinned, hugging the leather jacket. It was comfy. "Unbranded chips, the best kind. Courtesy of the Clover Cafe on The Bowery, Gotham (yes, this is an ad right now)" He chirped, handing over a little card to Kon.

Kon turned the card over in his hands, letting his fingertips slide over the embossed words. "I'll be sure to visit next time I'm in the area," He said honestly.

Quinn caught their attention with a brisk clap. "Alright, it's lovely to be all chummy and stuff, but I've got a report to work on, so if we could move this to my apartment...?" They looked at Evan. "Only if you want, though! I can work on it on my phone, too."

Evan typed something on his phone first, before looking up at Quinn and giving them a thumbs-up

"Sick." Quinn fished out a keychain and pressed a button, before walking backward out of the alley. "Do you like motorcycles, Vandal?"

"You have a motorcycle!?" Vandal almost screeched, running after Quinn. "I've always wanted to ride one!!"

"Well, now's your chance!" Quinn laughed, turning.

In front of them was a silver kawasaki vulcan, sleek and elegant in the sunshine.

A small pride sticker was slapped on the handelbar, and Quinn smoothed it over as they got on.

"Come on," They urged, grinning.

Evan hopped on, practically vibrating with excitement as he looked at the motorcycle, but also unsure in a way, not knowing where to put his hands or where to hold on to.

"Hold on," Quinn advised, wrapping the kid's arms around their waist. "She goes fast."

Kon got on behind the two, and they set off, the wind blowing through their hair as they zipped through Metropolis.

Evan cheered, whooping as the wind ran through their hair. He put his hands up for a split second before getting pulled down, courtesy of Kon. It was exciting, but also....really really scary.

"We forgot to mention the part where you're a terrible driver," Kon told Quinn over the wind.

They laughed. "Oh, yeah, I'm not the best! But I'm not the worst, either, if it counts!"

"This is so cool!!" Evan shouted over the wind, before quieting a little, grinning. "My parents have had to like- save money because of the cafe so I've never gotten to like ride a motorcycle before- it's so fast!"

Kon made an 'ehh' noise, like 'it's possible'. Quinn glared at him, and he smiled back, completely unwithered as they got off and walked up the stairs to a door with a green number 24A.

"Anyways, we're here! I'll probably be unavailable for like forty-five minutes, but Kon here is able to talk!" Quinn unlocked the door, swinging it open.

"Enjoy, you two!" They called over their shoulder, heading into the kitchen adjacent.

There was a familiar Gothamite gleam in their eyes, in the way they bared their teeth in a vaguely feral grin, that Evan probably should have been less surprised to see.

Kon looked between them, his face a mix of horror and concern. "'Kay, what the ever-loving fuck, Birdy?"

"I mean," Vandal started, unphased "There are always more alleys. And near the river would always be a good place to dump any body."

Quinn finally detached from their other half, taking two hopping steps forward to look, and Evan realized why they walked kind of weirdly as he caught metallic flashes reflecting the sun at him.

"What kinda hammer space-type shit is this?" Quinn demanded, examining the chip bag carefully. Kon took it from them, popping it open and tossing some into his mouth (with a grateful look towards Evan of course, god, could his day get any better-)

"Anyways, I'm Quinn! Nice to finally meet you in person," Quinn said with a bright smile, holding one hand out to shake Evan's and using the other to latch onto the guy's arm.

He waved an arm frantically at Kon- no, fucking Superboy- "You said you were gonna get him to stay but you didn't say!!!!-" He looked at Superboy, then back at Quinn, waving both of his arms at Kon like that would explain his point.

"Woefully codependent?" Kon added, elbowing the other. Quinn elbowed him back, stifling laughter.

He paused. "Also, is that a GAS CANISTER?"

"Don't worry about it, Evan's briefed me and there's nothing to worry about," The other said absently, patting their partner's cheek.
