Landon felt his heart racing a little bit, almost like those moments before he saw Mia before they exchanged those lifetime vows to be together forever. Being away from her these weeks had been agony. If it hadn’t been for personnel in the hospital sedating him at night, he would have tossed and turned every minute.
He leaned his cane against his ‘bum leg’, as he shifted the balloon bouquet enough to reach for his key. Just then, in perfect timing, the pizza delivery guy arrived, and Landon hesitated, and asked him if he could follow him up. He unlocked the door, and tried to be discrete as he gave the pizza guy a nice tip especially for helping him put the pizza on the counter before the guy left. Once the guy left, he started to sing from the kitchen, to see if his wife would come out from wherever she was in there with their young in tow.
Mamma Mia, there I go again, my my, how could I resist you
In true Landon fashion, he picked out the cheesiest, silliest song lyric he could think of in the moment. He never sang in public. Not because he didn’t have talent. He had a good ear and knack for music. He just felt plain foolish on a stage, because it wasn’t for him.
Noland heard his dad before Mia did, and the reaction that the little guy had made her laugh. He stopped mid-stride, where he’d been running across the nursery floor, and that caused him to fall backwards onto his diaper-clad butt. Mia, holding a sleepy-looking infant against her chest, laughed openly at her son. He looked over his shoulder at her, almost looking offended, before he resumed giggling too. Then he pushed himself upright, and on wobbly legs made his way over to the rocking chair where his mom and brother sat.
As quickly as she could, which wasn’t very quick while balancing a baby and reaching for an unsteady almost-one-year-old so he didn’t fall again when the rocking chair moved underneath his chubby little hands, Mia stood up. She let Noland lead the way out of the bedroom, moving at a slower pace now that there was someone else in the apartment. The second he saw who it was, though, he was squealing and moving at full speed, chunky legs carrying him to Landon while he stretched out his arms in a grabby motion. Mia watched and grinned, patting Harper’s back gently to try and softly wake up the newborn. “You certainly know how to make an entrance,” she joked, finishing the trek across the apartment in one or two long strides, so she could wrap her free arm around her husband, wanting to feel him close to her.
