As I started to pack today, I felt a ping of excitement for my new adventure. The decluttering was my favorite part. In all likelihood, this photo was taken by Noguchi during the time he was working on his commission at the Mercado Abelardo Rodrigues in Mexico City in 1936.  The pair stayed in touch throughout the 1940s, when Frida made occasional visits to New York for treatments for her ongoing ailments. A framed collection of butterflies hangs above Frida’s bed in the Casa Azul in Mexico City, a gift from Noguchi.

Blue Vervain for the nervous system and pain relief. Because the herb exerts a calming effect on the nervous system, herbalists may suggest its use as a mild antidepressant in cases of depression or melancholy. It is widely used to reduce anxiety, nervousness, fatigue and stress and can be used as a remedy for insomnia, as well. Its anti-spasmodic properties assist with seizures and hysteria.

Blue Vervain is also said to be beneficial for female health, as it is used to alleviate premenstrual syndrome (PMS) and to increase sexual desire. Blue Vervain is considered an emmenagogue, a substance that promotes and regulates menstrual flow when it has been obstructed or delayed. It is claimed that the herb is effective in increasing lactation for nursing mothers. Some people have used it to increase contractions during labor. 

Additional research shows that Blue Vervain tincture has anti-inflammatory properties that can help relieve respiratory inflammation. It is said to be excellent in cases of colds and congestion. As an expectorant, it loosens phlegm from the throat and chest. It is considered one of the best herbal remedies for alleviating the onset of a cold. It is extremely beneficial in dealing with asthma, bronchitis, pneumonia, sore throat and lung congestion. Moreover, Blue Vervain promotes sweating and thereby cools the body and reduces intermittent fevers, which also helps to relieve symptoms of colds. Sweating not only works to reduce fever, but it also acts to rid the body of toxins through the skin. It is believed to have a cleansing effect on the system that stimulates the efficient removal of waste products from the body. 

Blue Vervain is said to have a positive effect on the liver nourishing and helping to restore healthy function to the organ. It is believed to be an excellent liver cleanser when there is inflammation and is said to be helpful in cases of toxic liver conditions and jaundice, it also helps to stimulate sluggish digestion. The herb is said to be helpful during convalescence from disease and has been used in some cases of debility and anorexia.

An herbal diuretic, it encourages the flow of urine and helps to quell infection and remove toxins and obstructions, including gravel from the bladder, is said to be helpful in cases of gout by promoting the flow and expulsion of uric acid.
