TIME honors a selection of women trailblazers in photography

It’s a privilege to have gotten to know one of these women over the years, Kathy Willens, outstanding pioneer for female photographers in sports. The photo featured here was an older football image of hers from 1973. However, she is still as important & relevant in this ever changing cut throat field as Kathy was also included in the 2015 Best of Sports images by Sports Illustrated, Time Magazine, etc. She currently works as a staff photographer for the Associated Press.
