After graduating from university, Jace found himself in a situation where he felt like he was burned out. He didn't know what to do next and was increasingly withdrawn. Rhaenyra, seeing his state, decided to send Jace to Texas to rest and recuperate, as that's where their home is. It's a large property their family has long owned, but it had been empty for years. Jace instantly fell in love with horses. He's drawn to their strength, stubbornness, and pride. He decides to create a sanctuary for them on his property. This is a huge and painstaking undertaking, with a lot of paperwork. He needs someone with experience in this field. And that's how he met Cregan Stark. His family owns most of the land and sanctuaries in Texas. Their first meeting isn't particularly friendly. But Jace has no choice. Cregan is truly good at what he does. And even if Stark clearly can't stand him, he'll have to endure it. Jace won't back down from his decision.

Cregan expected the rich bastard to run away, abandoning his ambitions. But Jace turned out to be perfect in every way. Cregan is completely hooked and is frantic with despair, making stupid mistakes and clearly irritating Jace. But eventually, Cregan will figure out how to win the prince.

rip Lucerys but he really did have the odds stacked up against him, I don't think he ever stood a chance. he got to fly to Storm's End just because it was closer, but there he also got to deal not only with arguably the worst onscreen Baratheon, but also his maniacal war criminal uncle who has wanted to kill Luke specifically since they were kids. or, sorry, not kill, just the eye thing.

meanwhile Jacaerys of The Bad Posture over here basically got to turn his business trip into a dick appointment. Rhaenyra said "Cregan Stark is close to your age, I hope that as men, you can find common interest" and Jace was like "say no more 🫡🫡🫡"

edit: wait now that I think about it, I wanna be fair to Jace, I don't think he realized what he was getting himself into, same as Luke. I think it was more of a "I sucked dick on accident" type of situation.
