something stupid😂
also while i got you here check out this handsomehiro frame that's on screen for like .5 seconds
You're in high school in the 2000s. You're in the computer labs, and the weird kid next to you goes,
"Hey, do you- *sniff* do you like aneemay?"
And you're cultured, so you tell him,
"Yeah, I like anime."
"Oh- oh yeah? Then *sniff* then do you know Kagrabachi?"
And you're a huge fan of Kagurabachi, you've been reading the manga since you were a kid. So you reply,
"Yeah, I know Kagurabachi."
"Brooooooo. Me too! You should *sniff* check out this website..."
He tells you about a website with clips of all of Chihiro's best sword moves from the anime, especially his spin attacks (were there that many spin attacks? Despite being a mega fan, you can't recall...).
Honestly, you don't trust this guy at all, you don't even believe that he's an anime fan. But as a Kagurabachi fan, your curiosity overwhelms you. So on the computer, you open Firefox and type into the address bar:
www.chihirospin.com
And it's just this video.
KAGURABACHI | Official Teaser Trailer(JP)
HOLY FUCKING SHIT HE'S REAL MY BOY IS REAL THAT'S ROKUHIRA CHIHIRO STRAIGHT OUTTA THE MANGA AND NOW HE'S MOVING AND DOING COOL SHIT LIKE ROLLING ON THE FLOOR AND SHIT AND THE CAMERA IS ROTATING AROUND HIM LIKE HE'S 3D AND OH MY GOD IT'S HIM IT'S ACTUALLY HIM AND HE HAS A VOICE AND CAN TALK AND THE COOL MANGA BACKGROUNDS ARE NOW IN BRILLIANT HD COLOUR AND THE MUSIC IS FUCKING HYPE AS FUCK AND HOLY SHIT WE'RE GONNA FUCKING PROCEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEED
Small Mashiro Note
I forgot about this but better late than never. There's a cute quirk of Mashiro's character that's revealed in chapter 118.
Usually, Mashiro's one of the many guys in Kagurabachi that uses the manly pronoun ore [俺] when he refers to himself:
But in his own thoughts when he's comparing himself to the other three guys in this squad, he uses the softer and more polite pronoun boku [僕]:
He essentially thinks of himself as a junior not on their level, so much so that he's being more humble even in his own head. In general, his vibe is "I need to work hard to prove I belong here" even though he's crazy talented with the fine control and power output of his sorcery. Cute!
It's not a big deal or anything, nothing lost in translation or anything like that. I just thought it was an interesting little JP-specific insight into his character.
I did not just see some loser react to a chapter and then say 'looking at the clock and it is saying ISREALBACHI'.
This place is a fucking hell hole. I hate all of you.
@kcuf-ad pic above seems to be the only other weird one, the rest is just expressing concern about the propaganda and Shokoku being the aggressors.
Which, it's really crazy that tumblr and twitter are both worried about the propaganda, but for completely opposite reasons - twitter is worried Hokazono is gonna get assassinated (lol) for putting Imperial Japan's flaws on display, and there's so much more analysis on the symbolism in this chapter over there. Reddit is also roughly on the same page as twitter (other than the few posts that get flamed in the comments).
I get that the tumblr fandom are more sensitive to social issues, and I personally value that, but I can't help feeling like some of the commentary goes beyond criticism and are straight up just bad faith readings that the fandom here are happy to support for some reason, with how inflammatory some of these posts are. And no pushback on them either, it's all just... giving me a headache.
I'm happy for people to express their discomfort about the manga (and it's led to some good discussion at least imo), but these rage-baity comments are just not it for me.
Am I the only one confused as to why there's discourse on the latest chapter (117)? Why the hell is everyone worried that Hokazono just portrayed the entire Shokoku population as inherently evil, did everyone just forget the entirety of Part 1??
"The story of the Soga Clan and the Mikaboshi portrays the Shokoku as inherently evil"
Uh... yeah? This is the same country that teaches kids in schools that the Shokoku islanders were "bloodthirsty savages in nature", did you think they only started the propaganda machine after the war??
"The Shokoku people attacking the Japanese pre-emptively is making Akemura's genocide look justified"
... What? These events are completely in line with Yura's retelling of the war - the Royal Family were the ones who led the invasion, it's not a stretch to believe they were aggressive about it considering they did successfully invade the east coast of Japan until the damn Shinuchi came into play (if I read the below panel correctly).
But the actions of the Royal Family during the Irishima talks don't say anything about the civilians living in Shokoku, that was the entire point of Yura's retelling of the war. None of that has changed. The Royals could be the most evil incarnate villains in all of fiction but that changes nothing about the innocence of the civilians.
There's no way that everyone read through the entirety of Part 1 and are now worried that Hokazono is going to make Akemura's genocide look justified... you know, the genocide that ate at Kunishige until he died and passed on his sins to his son, the one that made him create a blade specifically to destroy the thing that caused it, the one that wrecked at least two of the Enchanted Blade bearers with guilt to the point that one was gonna go through a s**cide plan to atone for his sins??
Tell me what the hell am I missing for people to now be comparing Kagurabachi to KKK and Israel propaganda??
[Side note: I'm also seeing some people thinking the two prophecies Chiaki made are the same, but they're two separate prophecies - the one in the previous chapter (116) was for the group that left the letter on the beach, those people came in peace. The 2nd prophecy at the beginning of the latest chapter (117) was for the Irishima talks with the Royal Family, that's the meeting Chiaki said was extremely hostile.]
