The sun shone down, its bright, unfiltered yellow or blinding and pounding down onto the green Earth underneath, and with it, bringing to life everything in the surrounding area. She could hear the rustling of the leaves as she walked down the trail, her arms out to feel the branches against her fingers. She hummed as she felt the sunshine on her back. She pulled her blonde hair into a loose ponytail. She paused for a brief moment. The trail was split into two. She looked at the unknown path, the one that she avoided. She glanced at the path in front of her. She looked at the familiar trees and bushes . Taking a step forward her eyes became focused on the path that she never took. The trail dipped downward, and darkened naturally.
She forced herself to look away, instead of turning to look at the thin barrier of trees. How far could she go? Should she go? With easy resolve she made her way down the trail letting the slope pull her forward. She didn’t get very far when she heard a snap. She turned in the direction of the the noise. Nothing. There was nothing there. Nothing but silence which was strange. When she first started walking there had been noise. She didn’t hear the buzzing of insects or the songs of birds overhead. The normal sounds were replaced with an eerie silence that chilled her to the bone. The silence was soon buzzing in her ears. Her breath quickened as her heart thumped into her chest. Another branch broke somewhere behind her. She quickly grabbed her things and started running back the way she came. She tripped as she ran up the hill.
Another branch broke somewhere behind her. Her legs and her lungs burned. As she ran she felt something grab her from behind. She can feel the blood go down her neck and how her skin is ripped…she opens her mouth to let out a scream……
Waverly woke up just as she was about to let out a scream. She was drenched in sweat. It had been a long time since she had a nightmare like this. She sat up in bed as she tried to slow her breathing back down. Her heart was pounding in her chest. She reached up to her neck and checked for wounds. “It was just a dream. No correction it was a fucking nightmare.” She never imagined that her life would be like this but it was. She didn’t want to take her medication. She didn’t want to rely on it in order to get a decent night’s sleep
Getting up she grabbed her robe from the chair and slipped it on. She quickly tied it and walked down the hall and into her kitchen. She sighed as she ran her fingers through her blonde hair. Shaking her head she grabbed the bottle of whiskey and a glass. She stared at the amber liquid before pouring it into the glass. She drank it without thought. Sometimes the burn was more satisfying than relying on some sort of medication in order to fall asleep. Sometimes she wondered if she would really truly be able to go to sleep. “That’s it no more weird ass movies that I’ve never heard of before I go to bed.” She took another drink and then headed back to her bedroom.
