Writer Wrap-Up 2025

How many fics did you write this year?

I posted 12 fics to AO3 this year. One of them, "dark and full of wonders" was an edited version of a fic I initially posted to Tumblr in 2023. One of them was also written in 2024 and revealed in the early hours of 2025 in the Darklina Discord Server Secret Sankta Exchange (which I also did this year, so it balances out.)

How many words did you write this year?

According to AO3 it's 33, 746. I would say there are at least 5K more in drafts, and maybe even 10K-ish.

Did you try anything new this year? (new fandom? new pairing? new language?)

I did! I posted my first original sci-fi story, "yields to shelter", for the Hurt/Comfort exchange. (Not the first original SF I've ever written, but the first in a fandom context.) I also posted my first work tagged A Song of Ice and Fire and Related Fandoms, but that was the fic I initially posted on Tumblr as mentioned above.

And I guess it was also the first time I posted a fic tagged with an SNL sketch!

Did you participate in any fests/events during the year?

I did! I participated in the Reylo Fanfiction Anthology's Valentine's Exchange, the Hurt/Comfort Exchange (which I had wanted to do for a while), the Darklina Discord Server's Valentine's Mixtape and Secret Sankta Exchange, the Summer Storms Darklina Fest, Fandom Gift Basket, Fandom Lair September Fest, the AU Roulette Challenge, and the WIP Big Bang. 10/12 fics I posted this year were written or finished for events.

Which is the funniest fic you have written this year?

Probably either "Drag You In" (Star Wars cat shenanigans) or "shaded white, dimpse, salt" (a double AU featuring Darklina as realtors, sequel to an equally cracky fic)

Which is the angstiest fic you have written this year?

"won't start (till you touch)" which is a Darklina fic inspired by Taylor Swift's song "Fortnight".

Which is the steamiest fic you have written this year?

ALSO "won't start (till you touch)" as it turns out. It's horny angst!

Which is your most valuable writing lesson learned this year?

Hoo boy. That I can keep doing it, even in the middle of stress and distractions and bullshit and Taking On Way Too Much. I posted my lowest wordcount since starting my AO3 in 2020, and it's >0 so I will take it.

What do you look forward to writing next year?

I have some WIPs I would like to get out into the world, or at least add chapters to. I'm excited!
