I really hate when someone makes a post like “man, I hate how you can’t trust any image or video you see on the internet now because it could easily be AI” and the most annoying reply guy swoops in like “what you’re against all tech huh??? What about the phone ur using now?? What about AI being used for cancer detection—?”
And it’s like, girl shut up, that’s so obviously not what the person was talking about. You’re not smart for missing the point and being an irritating contrarian on the internet because you're butthurt that people aren’t impressed by your emotional support chatbot and slop images. People don’t need an “I don’t hate all technology” disclaimer on every post they make about AI accelerating the rise of anti-intellectualism and disinformation, and the erosion of a shared reality lol
I think my annoyance with this comes down to people online being incapable of engaging with context and demanding that you acknowledge every possible situation on earth with a disclaimer when making a post about a topic. We see this all the time with really every issue you can think of. It isn’t smart, it’s just derailing the conversation with whataboutism. The person criticizing AI being used to make deepfake porn, or spread disinformation, or cheat through school, or serve as digital yes-men and exacerbate people's mental illness, isn't talking about AI usage in something like scientific research and they really don't have to stop and acknowledge a conversation they aren't having.
