Joongki searched for Insadong in his email while Jaehyo talked. Luckily, Insadong wasn’t a place where Song Enterprises had multiple projects, and his team had actually been working on a project related to the property, so he had some records of it.
He remembered that project, vaguely. Joongki skimmed through the search results quickly, and between the email threads and his memories, a timeline was starting to form. It looked like Jaehyo’s information was correct, if broad. Song Enterprises had indeed contracted Hook Construction for the renovation to turn the slightly run down building into an art gallery for up-and-coming artists on the second and third floors, a sophisticated café down on the first, and luxury lofts on the highest floors, according to one of the emails he received.
But no movement at the site? Joongki frowned again. “The last I was told, there were unexpected delays at the construction site. Piping and wiring were discovered to be not up to code, so they needed to push back the completion date in order to tear everything out and redo it. There should be more construction going on, not less of it, and certainly not none at all.”
And with news of that delay, the marketing director had reassigned the marketing plan for the café opening away from Joongki’s team and to—well, Joongki wasn’t sure. It was probably just in a holding pattern until they got a firm date for the grand opening. “So far as I know, we still own and intend to finish renovating the property. I don’t know why there’s no movement at the site.”
When was the last time someone from Song Enterprises went out to check the construction site? Joongki didn’t work that closely with that part of the company. He didn’t imagine Jaehyo would just make up a lack of progress and people at the site when it would be so easily verifiable on his end. Hook Construction should be working on the renovation right now.
But if they weren’t–then that meant this really could be embezzlement, on a large scale.
Jaehyo was curious as to why someone would want the small time CEO dead and willing to pay a rather exorbitant sum for the death. When he had began looking into the company, he had noticed several inconsistencies and he supposed that his client was simply one of the poor defrauded companies. So he wanted to save the embarrassment to Song down the road, and claimed that it was an expose on fraudulent activities by companies. He uncrossed his legs and leaned back staring at the man in frotn of him.
Song Joongki seemed in perfect control. Yes, Jaehyo’s information was correct, if not extremly detailed. He didn’t concern himself with small details. That was for his court to discover. His job was to take that information and work with it. Jaehyo stood up, pacing around the room, since he didn’t enjoy sitting still for a long time. “Yeah, no movement. It seems the site has gone dead. It’s a pity. I was quite looking forward to the art gallery that was supposed to be in there.” he said, humming.
“Yes. I heard that the piping and wiring wasn’t working. But even with my elementary knowledge on the whole utilities aspect, I’m sure that it doesn’t take several months to replace those.” he said. He paused behind the chair that he was initially sitting in.
“Then if you own and fully intend on finishing the property, then why is there no movement? Has a representative been there?” he said. He then sat down again and reached for his camera. “I’m sure there’s a positive explanation...” he said, showing him the pictures of a still site. No movements, no equipment nothing. “But I did pay a visit to there when I heard about it before I came here, “ Jaehyo said.
“I do believe it’s a fairly open and shut fraud case.” he said. The lawyer in him smirked, since he was still a lawyer and he had studied. “As for evidence, well, shall we dig that up together? I’m sure it would look bad if Song Enterprises didn’t step in.” he added.
