Something inside me wants to draw and write to make up for the mischaracterization and blatant racism in the bloodymary fandom
I may not be fully Asian, and even though my family is from the south of Asia, doesn't mean I don't feel hurt or frustrated when people treat this character as if he's dumb or incapable of being a complex, versitile and resilient person because of him being POC and having reasonable human reactions to being in a deadly situation. (When I mention his reactions, I mean people clutching onto and exaggerating the moments where he lashes out)
‼️I DO NOT MEAN THAT EVERYBODY EVER WHO LIKES BLOODYMARY ARE GUILTY OF CONTRIBUTING TO THESE TROPES, THIS IS MERELY BASED OFF OF VERY FEW PIECES THAT I'VE SEEN DURING MY TIME IN THIS FANDOM‼️THIS IS NOT A PERSONAL ATTACK ON ANYBODY, but if you do notice that you are indeed dumbing down Simon just for the sake of having him being dumb, maybe look into that‼️
There is so much that I could address but this would end up being the length of a thesis because this has so much nuance </3 Take this as me barely skimming the surface of the problems

I was talking about this with my friend(hiiiiii) so I’m gonna basically just parrot that
I was writing this scene and immediately I know “Simon would never hug the glass he would NEVER.” Because to him this is so serious and important.
He is quite literally getting on Rocky’s level.
He’s recognizing him as an equal, and more, he is displaying an INSANE amount of trust all considered for Simon. Trust doesn’t come easy to him, but look at what he is doing.
His head is bowed, his eyes are closed, he is showing all of himself for him to see. The VULNERABILITY OF IT ALL!!
Especially just when you look at how far they’ve come in their relationship, this is a huge milestone.
Okay I’m going to bed now but I needed to point this out.

in another universe
suddenly thinking about the courtroom scene, of Stratt being accused of pirating literally everything, and Grace later having everything in the various computers aboard his ship that he gave a copy to Rocky without issue, and the beetles having such a massive memory capacity and...
Stratt was a historian. She wasn't just pirating for the sake of entertainment for the astronauts, she was doing a full historical backup of the planet. Who knows how much knowledge and communications ability, how much art and culture and history, how much niche knowledge of how to make specific pieces of modern technology or modern medicines, was lost as the wars for resources isolated everyone, as the death tolls led to the deaths of specialized trade workers and scientists, as the power grids failing across the planet (or cut off, potentially) led to all the cloud servers going dark. Stratt was facing methods of combating extinction and she did her best to ensure that if/when the Hail Mary worked, it would send back not just the hope of the future in the solution to the astrophage, but the restoration of history and culture and knowledge.
Just.... she pirated everything, and put it all on the Hail Mary.

Post canon Grace and Rocky found a really weird tree on an lonely moon during one of their exploration 🌙🧑🚀🩸
Based on the storyboard where a giant tree broke the submarine and killed the eel.
Grace and Rocky being super happy to find a planet with PLANTS on it until they found a REALLY weird one with a gigantic human shape on it. Grace is panic speechless while Rocky located a heatbeat inside the roots. Grace immediatly dig into them and found an inconscious Simon.
