Inspiration for the Future
- Hang onto hope - Believe and be strong - Smile, and share laughter - Spread thankfulness - Live in the moment - Go after your dreams - Be grateful for life - Be all you can be.
A wise philosopher quote this statement, “The longest journey starts with a single step” - Cat, G.
Just wow! 9 hours in total of this journey just to see this beautiful place plus the scorching heat wave and the slim pathways. We were catching our breaths complaining here and there as the path seem endless. We didn’t prepare for this, we don’t have proper training and water! We still continued, took pictures, and ate in our hearts content. Finally, we reached the falls talked to foreign nationals and took pictures of the rice paddies together with the group. The journey was hell but it was nothing compared to the reward of witnessing the spectacular view.
The Fourth Annual 30-Day Gratitude Photo Challenge begins on November 1! For the past three years, I've hosted a 30-Day Gratitude Photo Challenge (see here and here and here) and this year it's back again for another month of embracing an attitude of gratitude. The premise of the challenge is this: snap photos inspired by the daily prompts listed above and share them on social media with the hashtag #Gratitude30.
DAY 1: BEAUTY
Beauty truly is in the eye of the beholder. What beauty are you grateful for? What things make your home, office, neighborhood, etc. more beautiful? Who around you embodies the essence of beauty? What do you find beautiful about yourself?
DAY 2: LAUGHTER
Laughing is one of my favorite things to do, and I'm so thankful that I do it on a daily basis. What makes you laugh? A movie? A book? A joke? A memory? Whatever evokes that giddy sense of happiness within you, be thankful for it.
DAY 3: DREAMS
What we dream says a lot about what matters to us. What do you dream about often (either in the literal or the abstract sense)? Do you have reoccurring dreams at night? Do you find yourself daydreaming about the same things?
DAY 4: WISDOM
Consider the wisdom you've received in your life. Who is the wisest person you know? What is the best piece of advice you've been given? What books / films / experiences have made and continue to make you wiser?
DAY 5: INSPIRATION
We are all uniquely inspired by the world around us. What inspires you to get out of the bed in the morning? What inspires you to keep working, loving, living? Contemplate how fortunate you are to have inspiration in your life.
DAY 6: DETAILS
It's time to stop and smell the roses, to pay attention to the little things in life that make a big difference. What little details of your life have you been taking for granted? What small acts or experiences shape you on a day-to-day basis?
DAY 7: ATTIRE
We are fortunate to have clothing on our backs, but what about your attire are you most thankful for? Is it the item that makes you happy every time you wear it? Or is it a purposeful item, like a coat design to keep out winter's chill?
DAY 8: FRIENDSHIP
Celebrate those friends you have in your life by being grateful for them. Who are the people who have stuck by you no matter what? Who are the ones you can call, day or night, for a chat? How lucky you are to have friendship in your life!
DAY 9: HOME
Home is where the heart is, they say. What does "home" mean to you? Is it the place you rest your head each night? Is it the place you grew up? Or is it more of a state of mind? Whatever home means to you, be thankful for it.
DAY 10: KINDNESS
We should all be thankful for whatever kindness we experience. What kind acts have you experienced lately? What kindness have you shown to others? Be thankful not only for others' kindness, but for your own ability to be kind.
DAY 11: ART
Art is everywhere. What you consider to be art is unique to you, but ask yourself: what do I consider to be art? What art do I see in my life on a daily basis? What art do I love but see rarely? What art have I created (or want to create)?
DAY 12: SEASONS
The changing seasons echo the cycle of life and it's important to be thankful for what they represent. Which season are you experiencing now? Which season do you most like to experience? Why do you enjoy that particular season?
DAY 13: TASTE
Taste may be a difficult thing to photograph, but try to capture and share the tastes that you most enjoy. What is your favorite food? Why? What tastes (sweet, salty, etc.) are you most drawn to? What flavors entice and excite you?
DAY 14: NOSTALGIA
Looking back isn't always a bad thing. Sometimes it's pleasant to reflect on what was. Consider your favorite moment or item from the past. What was wonderful about it? How do you feel when you think of that time / thing / person?
DAY 15: NATURE
To be grateful for nature is to be grateful for life. Look around you at whatever nature you can find. What is beautiful or inspiring about it? What elements of nature do you most connect with? When were you most in touch with nature?
DAY 16: COMFORT
Whether it's comfort in a physical sense (a hug, a blanket) or in an emotional sense (a good listener, wise advice), it is wonderful to find comfort in your life. Think about the things, people, or situations that make you feel most comforted.
DAY 17: WORK
It can be hard to be thankful for work, but consider how work makes your life better. It provides you with income, and it can challenge, inspire, and excite you. Even if you don't love your career, ask yourself: why am I lucky to have work?
DAY 18: CHANGE
Change can be both terrifying and exciting. What changes have you experienced recently? How did they make you feel? What changes might you like to experience in the near future? What can you do to initiate those changes today?
DAY 19: NEW
What's new in your life? Do you have any new friends, new experiences, new mindsets? If you don't have any newness to be thankful for, do something completely out of character today and embrace the new experiences you have.
DAY 20: ROUTINE
Many of us are creatures of habit. What routines or habits do you have in your life? What about these are you thankful for? What routines do you wish you had in your life? What routines would you like to shake up and change?
DAY 21: SCENT
The nose is a powerful force and what we smell can transform an experience or mood. Consider what your favorite smells are and why. How do they make you feel? Why do you like those feelings? Be thankful for the aromas in your life.
DAY 22: RELAX
Relaxation is a beautiful thing. Do you spend as much time relaxing as you'd like? When you do relax, what do you most like to do? What sights / sounds / smells make you feel most at ease? With whom do you feel in a most relaxed state?
DAY 23: TRAVEL
Travel doesn't necessarily mean visiting foreign lands. Every day we travel from place to place. What travels do you embark on frequently? How do you feel when it route? What places have you most enjoyed visiting? Where do you want to go?
DAY 24: LOVE
There is little that deserves more gratitude than love. It is one of the most powerful forces on earth. How do you experience love in your life? How do you receive it? Give it? What does the word "love" really mean to you?
DAY 25: CREATION
Every day, we create. We create connections, experiences, conversations. We create art and music and magic. Consider what you have created today or recently. How did it feel? Now consider what you'd like to create in the future.
DAY 26: SOUND
What we hear can greatly influence who we are. What sounds are most appealing to you? What kind of music motivates or inspires you? What song could you listen to on repeat day after day? Appreciate all that you can hear.
DAY 27: FAMILY
It might be a love-hate relationship, but you are fortunate to have family in your life. Take note of them today and be mindful of the ways they have shaped your life. What do you love about them? What do you often take for granted?
DAY 28: DESIRE
What would you like to have more of in your life? What things / people / experiences fill you with longing? Consider not only what you want but also whyyou want it. How would you feel if you had it? How much it transform your life?
DAY 29: WEATHER
Weather can impact more than the color of the sky. How do you feel when the sun is shining? When the storm clouds are gathering? What is the weather today and how does it make you feel? Whatever the weather, try to embrace it.
DAY 30: SELF
The most important thing to be grateful is the only thing you will always have in your life: yourself. Consider all the ways you are wonderful and appreciate the good (and not so good!) parts of yourself. What do you love most about you?

My Soul-Searching 30 Day Challenge
Identifying the Present You
Understand who you were. Yes, I know, I know. I don't want to do this one either. I want to crawl into my little hole of the present and pretend some of my past never happened. But it's important to understand who you were in order to know who you are now so take a time out and give it some thought. Think about what you've done, what you've learned, who has been a part of your life. If you're lucky enough to have old journals, go through them and re-read your life story. Ask yourself the following questions:
Who did I spend time with in the past? What were my relationships like back then? How did I deal with conflicts? What did I like to do for fun? Why? What are some of the lessons you learned? Which experiences were good? Bad? What are your favorite memories? Why?
Know who you are now. Now, think about what's changed. In some areas, probably a lot. In others, maybe not as much. We are always changing (or, at least, I always am). We don't typically like the same things at age fifteen that we like at age thirty. We change likes/dislikes. We change partners. We change jobs and homes. And, most importantly, we change ourselves. So take a moment to ponder the questions I've been asking myself lately:
How is today different than last year? How is today different than ten years ago? Or fifteen? Do you love who you are right now? Why or why not? What is important to you in life? Who do you spend time with? What do you do? What activities do you enjoy the most? How has the past impacted your present?
Think about who you want to be. I know I stress focusing on the present so this seems as thought it might be unnecessary to think about, but remember this: the moment you're living in right now will soon become your past. You will be in the future, living in what will then be your now. (Got that?) So it's important to consider what you want to be so that you can work on becoming that person today. Here are some questions to ask yourself about your future self:
Who do you admire and how can you be more like him/her? What values do you want to be important to you long-term? How can you change what you don't like in your life? Do you have an ideal lifestyle? What is it? Who would you like still in your life in ten years? What can you do now to promote a healthy self later? How happy do you envision your future? Think about the great things you have going for you. Think about the compliments you've received. Did you blow them off or realize that, hey, maybe that person had a point? You are -- we all are -- incredibly unique and awesome in our own ways. We all have something (and usually many somethings!) to offer the world. Identify what your good is and focus on that. I'm sure you're just fabulous... I mean, you must be if you're reading this right now, right? ;)
Understand your bad. Ah, the downside of loving who you are now. You might have changed for the better, but you might have also changed for the worse. Are there things you do now that you didn't used to do and you don't like doing? Be brave and identify these things. Look at the parts of your past you examined earlier and think about what you would like to have back. Were you more friendly as a child? Were you blissfully happy during your twenties? (If you were, I want to know who you are because I'm not even sure that's possible!) You might have lost some of your good traits. Go find them. Likewise, work on the ones you don't like. It's not easy, but you will be happier without them.
Believe no one is perfect. You might say you know no one is perfect, but do you believe it? Sometimes I don't know if I do. I want to believe that perfection can be attained, but, deep down, I know that's not true. No one -- NO ONE -- is perfect. So stop trying. You are you and the you you are is great. So be happy with that. You've come a long way from the person you used to be and you still probably have a great deal of growing to do. Every day is a new chance for a new start, so don't worry about everything being perfect. Love yourself. It's okay to be less than perfect. In fact, it's the only way you can be.
Lately I've been doing a lot of soul-searching and one of the most important things I'm realizing is that I have to love, love, love myself in order to be better at loving those around me.I have to accept myself -- all of me. I have to accept my past (and let it R.I.P.). I have to accept the person I am growing into -- not flawless, but filled with interesting things to say and ideas on the world that other people genuinely care about. And I have to accept the person I will become and realize that everything I'm doing right now is affecting that soon-to-be person. I have the ability to make choices now so that one day I'm not looking back on my past with eyes lowered, filled with shame and embarrassment. It's up to me to live in such a way now that my future will be filled not only with more futures and a wonderful present, but a past that I can be proud of.
Now that you've taken the time to think about this, tell me, what can you do now to make the future you happy with your past? (Think about that!)

Reblogging because I wish I have my favorite authors on speed dial whenever I’m feeling sad. I’m pretty sure they will understand even if I just blather on about anything and everything.
The joy of having siblings.
Capitancillo was named after Capitan Basillo, the captain of a Spanish trading vessel. According to the legends, Captain Basillo insulted a local datu, named Bugtopasan. Bugtopasan cursed Captain Basillo and put a spell on him, transforming the Captain's galleon into the island beside a lighthouse. We got the pleasure of getting there and there is no doubt that crystal clear water surrounding the water is beautiful. I heard there were sea snakes around the island but wasn’t able to see one during the trip. It was great to see colorful fishes, good thing the weather was nice at that time and warm.
Giant Clam.

I loved the feeling of freedom in running, the fresh air, the feeling that the only person I’m competing with is me.

A change of view always gives me new perspective in life. Waking up and having the chance to witness the sun as it rises and the bed of clouds was totally priceless!
