I did this for my dai character. I sketched out an idea of what I wanted and then kind of mashed the in-game and my idea together.
So I thought it might be fun to do the same thing for da4.

It's been 21 years since the start of the events in Origins.
30 years is the upper limit for when Grey Wardens go on their Calling.
If the Warden's going to find a cure for the Taint, then they'd better get it done now, or they're going to run out of time.
As for the other Wardens we've met/recruited...a lot depends on how much they've interacted with darkspawn in these past decades. More interaction means a shorter lifespan.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard Q&A Notes Part 1
The party limit is intended to add to the feel of being in the world, feel more intimate emersion. limiting the companions allows them to have more visibility and presence. It also works better with the new combat system.
There will still be party banter! This includes interruptable and resumable banter. Companions will interact with each other at the homebase as well.
The companions are the heart of the game's experience.
Rook has six different backgrounds (Grey Wardens, Antivan Crows, Lords of Fortune, Veil Jumpers, and Shadow Dragons) you can choose from, tied to one of the major factions in the game. This determines who Rook was before they were recruited by Varric. Throughout the game, players will get to define what those events meant to Rook, how they affected Rook, etc.
There will be the ability to improve and customize gear, though the system is different from Inquisition. There is a mysterious entity that will assit you with this.
There may or may not be skeleton kissing, (but not with Manfred).
The game begins in Minrathous, but there will be many locations to visit, across Northern Thedas. The locations are more curated rather than open world. But you can return to them and and complete side content if you wish.
The companions will have unique abilities to them. The bulk of their abilities are based on their personalities - for example, Neve is an ice mage, but she also shares abilities that any mage can have, such as slowing down time.

There are "fade-touched" enemies in Arlathan.
The detonation combos are meant to create a feeling of teamwork.
You can select both your pronouns and gender separately. The character creation is extremely deep. There was a focus on skin tones done respectfully!
They are actively looking into developing a photomode for the game.
The ability wheel does have a capacity. You can choose three abilities for Rook, and three for each companion. This means strategizing is important before the mission. There will be an "ultiamte" ability associated with your class. There are also runes that can be used as temporary buffs.
There are "Frost Nova" and "Meteor" abilities similar to "Cone of Cold" and "Fireball" in the past.
They have spent time on accessibilty features, but will not share details until closer to launch.
It's been about ten years since the events of Trespasser. Solas's ritual has taken time to set up, and Rook is coming in at the end of that.
In Thedas, ancient elves go bald after a millennia. Solas was not always bald! "If you see Solas in the past, he will look different."
Companions have specific colour palettes and styles, but you can modify them.
