Canadian settings or locations rarely take centre stage in video games, though it's slowly growing thanks to a handful of smaller independen
A Quebec-made video game set in a fictionalized version of the American Deep South, called South of Midnight, won the top prize at last week's Canadian Game Awards â a fitting example of a larger tension in Canada's game industry. Canada is one of the giants of the global games industry, employing thousands in studios large and small and contributing $5.5 billion to the country's GDP, according to the Entertainment Software Association of Canada. But for all the games made here, few are recognizably set here. That tension was echoed throughout the awards, where none of the Game of the Year nominees featured Canadian settings, even as a video package celebrated how developers in this country have helped shape the industry.

I'm Juan Santapau (he/him), and I make THE SECRET KNOTS, which is a series of short stories in comic form. I live in Chile. Hola.
If you've been on Tumblr for some time maybe you've seen some of these comics: the one about a city of secret names; the one with a misunderstood cryptid; the one about enshittification.Â
The full web archive is here: The Secret Knots.
If you'd like to support me with a few dollars every month (which helps me enormously to pay bills and keep making art), you can subscribe to my Patreon, where I post updates about every comic in progress and different extras. You can also follow for free and get notifications for new things.
Hereâs the Newsletter, where I send reminders about new stories, and miscellaneous art.
Iâm on Bsky and Reddit.
Hereâs the PDF store, with some E-comics. Finally, hereâs an invitation to the Secret Knots Discord, a community server that always brings nice recommendations, and regular sightings of the weird in the world. Feel free to drop by and say hello.

We have 4 days left to raise the remaining funds needed to produce Warped (a trans horror and sci-fi anthology), otherwise we cannot create it. There is no compromising on paying writers, so if we can't get pre-orders to cover the ÂŁ8041 we have left to hit our funding target then this project will be stopped before it starts. A trans+ horror and sci-fi fiction anthology.
Whether you can afford to pledge for a physical copy, and e-book, or don't have the money but help with a share, your support is appreciated!

Two new large-scale data centres are set to break ground in Vancouver this year.

Two new large-scale data centres are set to break ground in Vancouver this year.
There are 16 data centres already dotted around Vancouver, with a majority located in the downtown core and Mount Pleasant. They have various purposes, with some serving as colocation centersâwhere retail customers can rent equipment and bandwidthâand others purpose-built for AI.
The two new data centres coming to Vancouver, a joint project between telecommunications giant Telus and the federal government, are meant to improve and increase the scale of Canadaâs sovereign AI infrastructure, Telus said Monday. The project was proposed under the federal governmentâs AI initiatives introduced in 2025 that support the development of these large-scale data centres.
These centres have been quietly popping up across Vancouver for a number of years, occupying hundreds of thousands of square feet in unassuming buildings. These tech towers have been storing cloud data and hosting website domains for over a decade in the city. Their existence is not necessarily benign, though.
