Here is my Mandarin Chinese Langblr Accent Tag in video form, since Tumblr seems to be having issues with the audio post (which you can find here if you’d like to give it a try or see how I translated the questions). It’s the exact same - I didn’t re-record; I just stuck the original recording into Windows Movie Maker and made the most basic video possible. Thanks for your patience with my technical difficulties!

haven’t been active for a while but 我做 @languageoclock 的口音tag了 !!! 我完全忘記了告訴你們我週四早上就要坐飛機去台灣了 ! 我好緊張 ~.~ 我要待一個學期 :)) i tag @polyglottica @nekoninjin @benkyoshiteru @balkanstudyblr @rousseua
if it helps, those questions would be “你有沒有去過說中文的地方/國家?" “有沒有人(曾經)以為你母語是中文?”
@clowergen thank you ! now that i’m reading the correct translation it’s completely logical to me but i guess i was just too tired that night haha x)
I was tagged by @mintlanguages!
I’m not tagging anyone because idk who to tag, but I’d love for any of my followers to do this!! (And please let me know if you do!)

Hello! Would you mind explaining how to pronounce some words that have double consonants / ㄺ, ㄻ, ㄿ, ㅀ, and ㅄ? Like for example, how is 삶 pronounced as 삼? Or how is 싫어 pronounced as 시러? Thank you very much! :)
For the most part, consonants such as:
ㄱㅅ, ㄴㅈ, ㄹㅂ, ㄹㅅ, ㄹㅌ, ㅂㅅ, ㄴㅎ, ㄹㅎ
The consonant on the left (third position) are pronounced.
ㄱㅅ: 넋 pronounced [넉]
ㄴㅈ: 앉다 pronounced [안다]
ㄹㅂ: 여덟 pronounced [여덜]
ㄹㅅ: 외곬 pronounced [외골]
ㄹㅌ: 핥다 pronounced [할다]
ㅂㅅ: 없다 pronounced [업다]
ㄴㅎ: 많다 pronounced [만다]
ㄹㅎ: 싫다 pronounced [실다]
For consonants such as:
ㄹㄱ*, ㄹㅁ, ㄹㅍ
The consonants on the right (fourth position) are pronounced.
ㄹㄱ: 닭 pronounced [닥]
ㄹㅁ: 삶 pronounced [삼]
ㄹㅍ: 읊다 pronounced [읖다]
*In special cases with verbs and adjectives, when ㄹㄱ is followed by ㄱ, the third consonant ㄹ (on the left) has phonetic value. For example: 읽고 is pronounced [일꼬]
Otherwise, all 겹받침 should be pronounced as above, or follow normal 받침 rules. So when a 겹받침 is followed by a vowel, the consonant in the fourth position moves over to the next syllable unless it is an ㅎ, in which case the sound is simply ignored.
For example:
읽어 pronounced [일거]
없어 pronounced [업서]
싫어 pronounced [실어] → [시러]
괜찮아 pronounced [괜찬아] → [괜차나]
많이 pronounced [많이] → [마니]
Hope that helped to explain, feel free to ask if you have any more questions! :3
The struggle is real…

The more I explore languages, the more abstract, fluid, and beautiful I find them. Every time you speak it’s like you’re painting a picture in someone else’s mind. Each syllable a brush stroke. Every fluctuation in pitch a different shade. A conversation is a collaboration between artists. Each language is a different medium; every one you learn gives you access to a whole new range of expression.

When you don't know anything about linguistics: The plural of "memorandum" is "memoranda", why can't people get it right
When you know a little about linguistics: The plural of "memorandum" should just be "memorandums" because that's how people naturally say it, "memoranda" is just prescriptivism
When you know a lot about linguistics: Oh my god? So certain English words borrowed from Latin and Greek have competing plural forms, with one form using the English plural -s and the other using a borrowed Latin or Greek form? Do you realize how crazy that is - a language borrowing *inflectional morphology* from another language? And here the two competing plural forms have become markers of education, expertise, and social class, isn't that incredible?

Ancient Lunar Runic Calendar from Sāmsala (the island of the Sami or the isle of Ösel). It is of 13 four-week months, consisting of 28 days each. The days read from right to left, like the Hebrew, and in every case the week commences with Monday and ends with Sunday. Øsel is the name of the island when it was under Danish rule in the Medieval period, and the Swedish with the name Ösel. The ancient Greek - Phonicians and culture of the pre-christian Roman Empire likely influenced the Baltic and Nordic Runic scripts. People came to the Nordic and Estonian - Baltic areas with the Iron Age Indo-European people connected to the Early Roman Empire. This period is archaeologically named: The Roman Nordic Iron-Age. The people were likely the ancient Nordic Goths - a people that from early on merged with the indigenous people and that later were displaced from the areas they inhabiated in the Nordic by the Dacian people that came from Eastern Europe to the northwestern and the Nordic areas during the Medieval period.
